KatB
Well, the promised winter storm has hit, and I've lost power. It's been almost 2 hours and the house is beginning to chill. What's the risk to my birdie if I light my gas fireplace? It's lined with ceramic, but it's in the same room with Oliver. Temps outside are 35 at the moment. I have a generator and an alternative to the gas fireplace would be a space heater I've used in the past (and verified non-teflon), but heaters take a lot of wattage and to use the generator for heat will pretty much put us in the dark... spookyhurst
Like the other thread says, definitely invest in a carbon monoxide detector. Our old house had a gas fireplace, and one time we forgot to open the flue. It wasn't lit for very long before the detectors started shrieking. Who knows how long it would have taken us to notice otherwise. We may have all keeled over first .
KatB
Wow! Thanks, I'll do that right away. I haven't used my gas fireplace yet this year, but I do enjoy it on cold days.
Hannah_Rae
We have a well ventilated wood fireplace that we use on occasion, but I am sure a CO2 detector wouldn't be a bad idea here either.
judygram
The CO2 detectors would be a good investment if you use fireplaces especially the gas ones.
