bex
I have just been accepted on a new job as cabin crew from Manchester airport, the job doesn't start until may, and it is only short haul, but i am really worried as it will be long hours (sometimes up to a 15 hour day)and my little baby african grey may get lonely waitin for me, what do i do???is there anyone out there that could do sitting swaps with me? (where i look after your grey when im off work and vice versa) or even anyone with an avairy who could have him for a couple of hours per week?? i would give them some money, anything so he's not lonely! or should i get him a friend?xx
BMustee
Well, are you with him all the time right now? Also how old is he? While they are young they can ajust to change much better than older greys that are set in their ways. I got my CAG in May and in October I had to get a second job, so I can be gone from 6am to 9pm, and he is completly fine wih it as long as he gets lots of love when I am home. I would say start getting him used to being alone for longer periods of time now so it's not a shock when it happens. Also, be sure he gets lots of toys to keep himself amused, leave a radio or TV on, or even get a fish tank for him to watch. I don't recommend another parrot for him because he may not want you as a friend anymore with another bird around.
Tari
If 15 hours is the longest you'll be gone and you still have days off or short days to spend with him your bird should adjust fine. I leave the TV or radio on when Im gone for long periods. Good luck
