Hey guys

My african grey got hold of the piece apple that was left after I cut off her slices as I can see she probably ate about 3 or 4 of the apple pips and I believe its toxic to them.

Will this make her sick or kill her???? I always make sure there isn't any but this time she was lil naughty as they always are:)

Please tell me she is going to be ok

Apple pips contain amygdalin, a cynide & sugar compound that degrades into hydrogen cynaide when metabolized .The pips have a tough coating that contains the amygdalin inside, unless the pips are really chewed or pulverized then the amygdalin will stay inside the pip.Hopefully if your grey has just swallowed them & not chewed on them it should be ok,Keep a watchful eye on your grey for any symptoms or changes in his behaviour .If in any doubt a phone call to your vet would be advised.

:) Thanks for the update, pleased she has suffered no effects from the pips.

Apple pips in my personal opinion have the potential to be toxic, see my post above, consumed in large quantities i believe they are a danger to our greys & are best removed from apples before being feed to your greys.
