vaya_the_elf
Lately I have decided that I want good pet insurance for my two parrots. Since they both pretty young, its good idea since I will have them for so long. Like one thats pretty good, and will let me use my vet I have now. If anyone knows of good insurances for parrots let me know. Also please feel free to talk about anything related to this
judygram
Vaya_the_elf, why don't you introduce yourself in the welcome room and tell us a little about you and your two parrots.
Abdullah
it depends where you live vaya..your first step is to ask your vet they will def give you at least 10 pamplets to choose from..and omg its def a good idea...the costs of an emergency run to the hospital with our cat costed as much 400 dollers so its def good investment..theres also other pet plans that will help u with vaccinations/check ups or meds...call your vet..and welcome to the board
vaya_the_elf
Judy, will make post in the welcome thread *smiles* As for being good idea it is. I work at Vet clinic as kennel attendant, and I see how much stuff is all the time, so its good idea for most pets. I have cat as well that I thought about getting it for just for emergency needs. lovemyGreys
I'm not sure of US companies but insurance is definitely worth it in my opinion, i have my greys insured ,hopefully i will never need to use it but at least i know its in place if the need arises. Tari
It is so expensive here that it would work just as well to save that 100 plus per bird and have it on hand to pay for anything that might come up. Pet insurance is just like others only pays parts of stuff and only if you use your doctors and some stuff they have to "approve". If I had the money to insure all my birds I would just save it instead.
judygram
Tari is right, it is expensive, it only pays for part of the costs and they do have to approve the procedures that are performed, so you might just as well put aside that money you would have spent on the insurance to be used for those such emergencies as/if they occur. Hannah_Rae
Good tips guys. Setting aside money for emergencies is always a good idea, and even better to take care of someone you care about.
vaya_the_elf
Never thought of it like that, have thought about saving though. Just if something happens soon, won't have any money due to just moving, so hopefully nothing will happen anytime soon.... Might just save rather then get insurance, unless find one that I trust pretty well.
perfectparrots
Insurance for parrots in the UK seems more reasonable than in the US. I had my first parrot insured and she sadly died so I had to make a claim. I never dreamed I would need to claim for her treatment and loss. She was insured for £600.00 which I got back on her death. Plus her vets fees so was rather a large claim. This £600 never seemed right to me and since losing Chloe I have never been able to spend that money. My two greys are both insured for £200.00 each which keeps the annual renewal fees down and does not effect the medical cover. My cockateil got sick a couple of years ago and was not insured. She spent 10 days in the vets hospital over Christmas. This cost me over £500.00. The costs do build up when a parrot gets sick and requires specialist treatment. For me insurance is a must. vaya_the_elf
Unfortanly I live in US. AS for your loss I am sorry. It would be hard to spend the money, what I would do is either use that money for your other birds, or donate in honor to her at organization, thats just me.
