OHSNAP!
Until now i didnt 'think' i needed much help with Sam but i do. As of late Sam is trying my patience lol. He is having a problem following the rules. Sam will not stay off our quakers cage. Our quaker tolerates our keet on her cage but not Sam. Sam flies over and Sky starts fighting him. Today Sam got hold of Sky and she let out a nasty scream which upset me. I have tried strong NOs and time outs in a locked cage but its not working. As soon as i let him back out he is right back to her cage again. Sam will spend his time in cage digging in the corner to get my attention. Sams wings are clipped but he still manages to get across the room and truthfully i want him able to fly a little bit. I thought what works for my quaker will work for sam in terms of discipline. How can i make Sam understand that Skies cage is off limits?
judygram
Sam is young and it will take time and repeated taking him off the cage and putting him back on his perch but eventually he will learn that he has to stay off the quaker's cage. You may have to do this hundreds maybe thousands of times before he will stay off though.

chapala
Hope he continues to learn about staying off the other bird's cage. They can hurt each other as you know, and it really isn't safe. If he continues and you're concerned you may want to clip him a bit more. if he flies to the cage, he is not clipped enough (unless you want a flighted bird, in which case, why clip?). Usually Greys require the first four primaries cut so that they still have a nice glide down but can't gain elevation. Some very strong birds might need 5 feathers clipped. Kali used to be fixated on our Macaw's cage, and always wanted to climb it (with her in it). He is clipped. I told him countless times he couldn't do that, and would put him back in his cage. Nothing seemed to work. The Macaw bit his toe one day - fortunately not a bad bite but one that hurt for several days. They easily can lose a toe to a bite like that. From that day at least two years ago, Kali does not climb the cage anymore, lucky for me. I'm not suggesting that route, but that's just what happened here!
