Harley's necropsy

I talked to the vet and it was found that Harley died from chronic diarrhea. They didn't find any bacteria or anything. I never noticed a weight change and nothing different in his droppings. Or maybe I didn't look close enough. I don't know.

I have been looking at other birds. I still love greys, but they remind me of mine and I think I would like to have something different this time. I saw a 2 month old Severe Macaw that very sweet. I really like this one. Anyone have any experiance with the severe's?

Oh and if anyone had any exeriance with diarreha in birds please give me some advice on this so I know more on what to watch out for.

I admit that I am a little nervous of something happening again, but I guess that's natural.

Thanks

Thanks Christoph for letting us know the results of the necropsy and that is unusual to have been a cause of death. I guess you just never know what life has in store for each of us.

Don't blame yourself, there was nothing you could have done to prevent it, you didn't even know there was anything wrong with him.

I know that greys will always hold a special place in your heart but you have love to give so go ahead and adopt this macaw if that is what you want. I don't have any experience with macaws but some of the other members do and I am sure some of them will chime in with their suggestions and ideas.

And it is natural for you to be a little nervous after going thru what you just did but that is human nature and I doubt that you will ever see anything like that again.

Keep us posted as to what you are going to do and maybe someday you will be able to give another grey a chance to be loved by you, maybe when the loss of Harley is not so fresh in your mind.

Harley, macaws are wonderful birds. They are, however, completely different in personality than greys. I do not have a severe but understand that you must have a strong will and alot of patience with these little dynamos. A smaller macaw with a large macaw personality. Here is a link to an article which gives the basic description of each macaw. Keep in mind this is basic, we all know how different out individual birds are. http://www.birdsnways.com/wisdom/ww45e.htm

Here is another link to a macaw forum...these people know their birds...so jump on and ask some questions, they will offer alot of personal insite into the species that you can't get from an article. Most of the people on there love their severes and have nothing but wonderful things to say about them. http://www.birdsnway.com/boards/mt/mt.cgi

I'm sorry about Harley and wish you luck in your search for a new companion.
