alicianicole
I appreciate all the feedback I received on my first post about my African Grey laying her first egg. She laid her second one today. The common advice seems to be to let her sit on the eggs and not remove them from the cage but both of the eggs she has laid have been dropped from her perch and landed on the bottom of her cage and cracked. Any advice on this? Obviously, she doesn't try to sit on them or even pay much attention to the eggs. She will look at them and dance around them and go back up to the top of her cage and carry on as ususal. Do I remove them immediately or leave them? I guess its just a little different since both times they have been cracked! Thanks for any advice you might have!
judygram
I would remove them for the obvious reason that since they are cracked they are gonna start smelling soon. If you want to continue to leave "eggs" in the cage so she will not continue to lay just place some kind of balls that resemble an egg as suggested in another thead. alicianicole
Thanks! I have been removing them but have been fearful since everyone said that they will keep on laying them if you take them out. I will try to replace it with something similar looking. I just didn't want to do something that could cause her too much stress or make her feel the need to continue laying eggs. I'm not sure why she is dropping them from such a high distance anyway. judygram
If these are her first eggs she just doesn't quite have the hang of it yet but yes I would find something similar looking to put in the eggs place.
BMustee
Craft stores sell fake eggs. If they don't sell the size you need you could also look into taxidermy supply places. I would think that a fake egg would fool a grey better than a golf ball would.
