HoboHiltons
Hi.. I am new to this forum and I have been reading with great interest!! What a wonderful site!! I have a question about sexual maturity. In several of the topics of biting, sexual maturity came up as a possible cause. At what age does a normal, healthy grey come into sexual maturity? And.... is there an age that they would lose interest in ever having a mate? Thanxxx to everyone that may have an answer to my question!!
dblhelix
Their maturity is similar to humans and this makes some sense given that their life span is not all that different than ours. The information I have seen shows most become sexually mature between 8 and 12 years of age. If others have more/different information I would be glad to know. Also like humans they go through a series of stages as they grow towards sexual maturity where they may be more inquisitive, assertive, aggressive etc.
chapala
Most sources give the age of secual maturity at 4 to 6 years for African Greys. They bond for life, and I've heard that they can breed for many, many years. A breeder would be the one to ask at what age they no longer mate and raise chicks.
