jimmycoop2005
So, last night my girlfriend and I are watching tv around 11:30 and the power cuts out for a second flickers comes back on then out for good. It was extremely windy and I think the wind knocked the power out. So we light some candles (unscented around the bird) but my dad forgets and he is in the family room the same as Cosmo and lights an oil lantern. A few seconds later I hear my mom start yelling at him I run in there and realize what he did. My mom put it out after about 40 seconds of it burning. I was all worried, I couldn't get on here to see if it was toxic or search on the internet. I called three emergency vets, they all gave the number to the vet's home. None answered. I called all the bird ppl I knew no one answered. He was acting normal though. Then on top of things it started to get cold. I covered his cage when the power hadn't been turned on by 2:30 am. The power finally came on at 4:00 am I checked on him and he was sound asleep. Uncovered his cage when it was a little warmer, and he seemed to be fine this morning. That's my crazy story of the weekend haha
judygram
We have occasional power outages also and I have lit oil lamps and if it is only for a short while it will be ok for the birds. I don't use candles too much and certainly not the scented kind especially if they are out of their cage. The heat being off is not too much of a problem as long as it does not last too long and it is not bitter cold outside. Of course we have 2 fireplaces and a wood stove for backup if we need it, out here in the country where I live it is necessary sometimes. I'm sorry you freaked out over nothing, but we do worry about our loved ones don't we, but now we can laugh about it. Thanks for sharing this story with us. Guest briansmum
i would have been freaking out too! what a crazy night. like lovemygreys said, it shows how caring you are about your baby. we all have our moments like this. the first time i went away (only for a few days) i left brian with my parents. we took him early the morning we were going. anyway i was chatting to my sister on MSN instant chat just before i left and she said "dads using a non stick pan, is that ok?" and i completely freaked! by the time i got on the phone to him my sister had taken the pan off him LOL. but i was in tears and almost refused to go on my trip. even though he was only lightly frying something, and was in a completely different room- at the other side of the house- to brian. what had happened was my mum had the 5 page long list of instructions i'd left and my stepdad hadn't had chance to read them. meanwhile brian was sat merrily annoying the dog with absolutely no idea his mum was a complete mess! the things we do...
