Dopple
Hi everyone. We've had a lovely Grey (Leo) for about 6 months now. We decided to get a bigger cage for him as the old one was looking too small. We put the new cage in the living room for a couple of days so he could get use to seeing it. Yesterday, after he had been out of the old cage for a while we decided to try him with the new cage. He went in but clung to the side of the cage obviously scared and wouldn't sit on the perch. Once it became apparent that he wasn't going to settle we put him back in the old cage and he was his normal talkative and happy self again. Today he wouldn't come out of his old cage as he must of thought we would try to put him in the new cage. Finally he did come out but fluffed his feathers up and generally looked wary as if we were going to try to get him in the new cage again. So at the moment we have him back in the old cage and have left the new cage in the living room hoping he will get used to it. Does anyone have any suggestions? BMustee
Well, if he is really scared of it I would just keep it in the room with him to get him comfortable with it. I would move it a little closer to him each day till it is right next to his old cage. Once he can be right next to it keep the door open and put his favorite treats inside where he can see them...he'll go in to get them on him own and figure out that the cage isn't so scary. BMustee
No problem. B) I was lucky, when I got a new cage for my grey he was so excited that he was hopping and climbing all over the panels when I was putting it together. It was funny once he realized that the door would shut he was like…What is this! You can’t lock me in here! He was fine after about 10 minutes and his favorite ducky toy was hung inside. Dopple
Thanks so funny Once I've got Leo to like the new cage, all I have to do then is to teach him not to bite at my ear when he's on my shoulder
judygram
Greys can be funny about new things, you just have to let them get used to it being there and that may take a while for him to be able to go inside of it. Why don't you introduce yourself in the welcome room and tell us a little more about yourself and Leo.
Kibibi
BMustee's advice is excellent (as usual). Ideally (if possible) you should leave them both there and slowly move the really cool toys over to the new cage. Eventually it will migrate to the new cage. Make sure that you provide a lot of treats in the new cage too. Bribery usually works
