dumfatnhappy
not sure where this belongs but I have a quick question, can AG's smell water? the reason I ask is I'm trying to get my 4 yr old to switch to a water bottle from a bowl. She won't go near it no matter what I do for an introduction. Figure I'll just 'starve' her till she figures it out? I've bumped her diet with juicy fruits (grapes, watermelon, etc) in the mean time but not sure that will help the cause. Anyone with experience on this? thanks
judygram
For goodness sakes, don't take her bowl of water away until she gets the hang of the bottle, show her how the water will come out when you press on the ball. She is a little scared of it right now, but when she gets used to the bottle being there show her how to use it, I am sure she will catch on fairly quickly. dumfatnhappy
oh I have showed her over and over....she just ignores it. I think when it comes to survival we're all pretty savy by nature. Please don't think I'm mean or insensitive, I aquired her a month ago and not sure if she ever had one in her past (apparently not?). Her cage is the type where the water bowl is actually on the outside and doesn't serve for bathing or anything but beak access. I'll let you know how long it takes her. thanks,
ziggy
I think that you should try leaving the bottle alone and mabee getting a new cage for it. Please dont try to starve the bird you can do unreversable damage doing that. They loose weight fast and can dehigrate very quickly. This goes back to if its not broke dont fix it. The bird is set in its ways for a reason, it is content on how it feeds and drinks dont let it loose its sense of security. If it loosed its trust the outcome can be quite disasterish.(IMHO).

Post edited by: ziggy, at: 2007/11/27 18:
dumfatnhappy
well when I said "starve" I didn't mean it that literally. By "bumped" I meant increased btw. I think changing her cage would be far more upsetting than pulling her water bowl for half a day till she figures it out. Like I said she has more fruit to compensate in the mean time.
