Laurie
Klaus & I shared a bowl of Campbell's vegetable soup for dinner tonight. He LOVED it! It was hilarious, he sat on my shoulder and waited for me to send a bean or a pea or a noodle his way, enjoying every bit. My trusty dogs were close by, getting everything Klaus dropped. Needless to say, I'm a mess - I have soup all over my top & pants. I think the soup has a higher salt content than we'd like for our birds but I didn't give him too much, and we had a blast... judygram
I wouldn't let Klaus have too much too often for the very fact that canned soups are loaded with sodium. My Josey had pinto beans, cornbread and cabbage and she loved it all, of course I don't have any inside dogs to take care of the mess, so I had to clean it up. chapala
I don't give any soup to my birds because it's just too salty, even homemade. Campbell's is especially high. The parrots don't process that amount of salt well, and I think it's good to be careful with all the high sodium foods. No added salt to my birds' food, just the way I do it. Kibibi
The high salt content was the last thing on Klaus' mind :woohoo:
sandra902
i'm a market day lady and other merlin loves the gemelli pasta/veg blend as well as the spectrum fruit singles. both all natural, no sugar or salt added. you should see the look he gives me when i lick the spoon after giving him his fruit blend - very accusatory. and he picks out the blueberries first so now we know another thing he likes! lovemyGreys
Laurie as a very rare treat is fine but as previously said tinned soup is high in salt & sodium so not to often you could make your own soup ?
Laurie
Yes, now that I know Klaus likes it so much, I'll shop for soups marked "low sodium." Do you think those would be ok? I'm not much of a cook myself (my husband does the majority of any cooking that get done around here). He does make soup, but his is pretty salty, too. Oh, I forgot in my original post, when I was first opening the soup, Klaus was on my shoulder watching my every move and when he saw the soup he gave the longest, most appreciative wolf-whistle I've ever heard him do. He cracks me up! Again, this will be one of those "once in a great while" treats, and I will shop for a low sodium kind, too, if you guys think those are ok. judygram
Laurie those would be better, but those canned soups still have a lot of sodium in them even the low sodium ones, just read the label for the difference. I would just offer them occasionally to be on the safe side.
