I think they were either ignored or abused. What is a great way to try to tame them, everytime I go near the run away screaming... Just got Silly african grey 2 days ago he is five months old, will he pick up their bad behavior or can he teach them in time??? Playmates in the future PLEASE ADVISE......

Post edited by: dpatter2, at: 2007/11/20 04:
Tari
First you need to separate them. Then you need tons of patience. They are hard to keep tame so I am sure they well be hard to tame. They need to be away from your grey for 45 days and need to go for a well bird avian vet check up. The grey and the IRN before they are anywhere near each other. I wish you luck cause you have taken on a handful with those guys.
judygram
Yes you have, 3 birds in a short time span with one of them being a grey, yes you have taken on quite a handful. As Tari said, patience is key, don't rush anything, it takes time to build the trust that bonding is based on. You need to sit by their cages and talk to them, read the newspaper out loud to them and speak softly and it will go a long way in getting them used to you. The two ringnecks might bond to each other and not to you, that is a possibility. The grey may well pick up the screaming, Josey, my grey can scream like my sun conure and she also picked up a cockatoo's scream for a while after being kept at a breeders house while we vacationed. But I think in time the screaming will lesson as they get used to you and having you around, just be patient, all good things come to those who wait. ziggy
Hello, Ringnecks are part of the parakeet family, they are known to be very voicetress. This is the same as the conures like judy was saying. I have ringnecks and conures(nandays). They love to scream at each other all day long. The nature of the beast. Ringnecks are a bird that can loose control very easily. They are beautiful birds no dought but as beautiful as they are they are a bird that needs alot of hands on time. They revert back to there wild behaviors in a short time if contact is not made all the time. The best advice I can give you is to have a load of patience with ringnecks(they are a tough nut to crack). For your grey he will pick up there scream very easily they mock alot of sounds and whistles. So if you dont want 3 screamers you need to work with the ringnecks alot,to control there screaming. Abdullah
YOU NEED TO SEPERATE THEM! females are dominate and WILL kill the male if its not breeding season..even if it is the breeding season they usually kill thier mates after thyre done!!! so please spereate them...sorry for writing in caps lol indian ringnecks can be very very stubborn when it comes to taming...you have to show your resilient....start by taking them to the vet and clipping thyre wings..after that allow them to be out of thier cage get used to thier surroundings...offer them food they are known suckers when it comes to food lol...also very territorial around thier cage ''like most birds'' but indian ringnecks i found will gaurd thier cages with thier life apart from that many times they tend to be hormonal i found around breeding season also your females maybe in transition because thyre 8months..they are introtransition to being teenagers..and will get into this stage called bluffing...they get over it if you know what to do...ill post a link ..but for now google bluffing indian ringnecks...they need to be handled all the time coz they tend to go wild if u just let them in a cage i dont claim to be an expert but I LOVE indian ringnecks ...ive handfed two..and they grw up to be excellent babies..mine however passed away..the other one is still fine and healthy with my sister good luck
