3CrazyDanesMom
Ok guys, we will be picking Jasper up this weekend and we're so excited!! He is eating very well at 12 wks old. I made some "chop" for him this past weekend and he loved it. I pulsed together sweet mini peppers, cauliflower, broccoli, carrots, chia seeds, and cooked whole wheat pasta. My question is do any of you pulse different veggies, freeze, and mix certain things together to give them more of a variety during the week or do you make one big batch of chop and they eat that until it's gone? Also, we're giving him Harrison's fine pellets, as others have suggested on here but I was wondering what you guys give as far as seeds. The breeder suggested I put seed and pellets in his cage at night but I'm not really sure what to go with that doesn't have a bunch of artificial junk in it. Advice please? SRSeedBurners
We don't do seeds for any of our birds. They get them as training treats only. Also, the mix that I buy has a lot of nuts in them so another reason I don't give them any more 'seeds'. Not sure about putting food in their cage at night. None of my birds except one, our new lil conure, moves around at night. They are literally in the same spot I put them every night. Nobirdy goes to the fridge. As for the chop, I do something similar with sprouts. I'll make a batch of sprouts that will probably last 2-3 days and that will be their main feed for the day. I will mix in some other stuff: bananas, veggie mix etc to spruce it up. They only have access to Harrisons during the day while we're at work because they can't fling it and make huge damn mess. Morning and afternoon outside aviary time is when they get the sloppy stuff. They can fling to their hearts delight (and the delight of the chickens waiting right outside the wire) and I don't care. Make sure to get us some pics! It's been right DEAD around here lately.
Giannine
I do keep pellets in my bird cages at all times. My Quaker goes to the pellets immediately after being put back in her cage for the night and I often find them eating pellets in the morning when I uncover their cages. I do mix a small amount of seed in with the pellets—probably about 80% pellets, 20% seed. I haven't made chop yet but I think you could make a batch and if you're worried about Jasper getting bored with it, just add a few other things for variety...I think it would be good to do that every day, anyway. I second Sterling...I get disappointed lately coming on here and not seeing any new posts. I suppose I could try to add some of my own but I just don't have anything exciting bird-wise going on so yes, we would love to see pictures and hear how everything is going once Jasper gets home and settled
