Hello,

Both are very good talkers. The double yellow head is the best talkers of the amazons. It is also the second best of all species. It only trails the greys ability to talk and mock other noises. The yellow nape is also a great talker. The blue front mabee has a little better vocabulary but it is a tose up between the two. They are both great birds and love to be left alone. They on a whole are like greys in the regard that they are not really cuddlie type birds. They are great to have the amazons but they can also be quite nasty at times. All birds can get nasty dont get me wrong but they can push the envelope alittle more then others, like cockatoos, macaws, conures, ect. They can all be nasty in there own way it comes to the traing from you if he will behave or not. Getting a bird of this nature you need to spend alot of time with him. They are very smart and pick up training and words quite fast and easily. I love both the yellow nape and the double yellow head it is a toss up for me. No matter what one you choose it will be a great choice.

From what I have seen Amazons seem to be less shy than Greys. My Grey doesn't talk unless he is use to a person, but I have been around 5 dyhs 1 bf and 4 yns all talk no matter who is around. I think I like the blue front the best though. B) But don't get a bird just for it talk, just because these species have been known to talk some never say a word.

Post edited by: jimmycoop2005, at: 2008/01/09 07:00

I had a yellow nape and an african grey. I still have my grey but my nape died about 2 years ago. I got my nape first(3 weeks old)and bought my nape about4 months later(6 weeks old). They were best pals. My nape would preen my grey and they would fly outside together. My nape was partial to me but that was because my grey was partial to my husband and demanded his attention. They napes disposition was very laid back. She/he was gental and never bit anyone. Sweet and loving. She did like my husband but she loved me. My grey tolerates me but loves my husband. I miss her.

I'm Very Interested in getting an Amazon bird now my question is what is the difference between the Yellow Naped Amazon & the Double Yellow Head Amazon. Do they both talk good which is better with kids or people. Can anyone please explain to me the difference.

I personally would say if you're looking for a bird that can be "trusted" with children, a 'zon is not your bird.

I know there are exceptions and all birds are different as individuals. But 'zons, males especially, can become VERY nasty (and somewhat unpredictable) during hormone rages. An experienced keeper can learn to read their subtle (and sometimes glaringly obvious) body language and avoid confrontation, but a child will not know what to watch for.

My BFA which I got at 9 years old has left some very painful scars on my hands, when just previously, he was super sweet, and completely trustworthy.

All birds have that capability, but amazons are notorious for having attitude, and knowing when to use it.

My son is 8 and he is not allowed anywhere near the amazon's cage, whether his door is closed or not.
