RubyTheCAG
Hello. I just rescued a CAG over the weekend that was living in HORRIBLE conditions. Screamed at the previous owners while they attempted to remove him from the cage which I ended up having to do, and did so on the first try. I asked what food he was on and they said "the one with his picture on it from Walmart." He seems to be blind in his left eye. I can out my hand up to it and he doesn't move a muscle. I place my hand near his other eye and he reacts immediately. He also has one large white spot and a few smaller spots on his eye. Any idea what this could be and if it's permanent? He also has one nare quite larger then the other. Is this anything to be concerned about? Thanks.

Timbersmom
I have no idea as to the health concerns. Someone with more experience will come along. However, I'd definitely have an avian vet check him over, if for no other reason than to establish a baseline. Bless you for taking him in and rescuing him from Walmart seed! Greywings
It sounds like he may have had an infection or injury to that eye. They can like us develop cataracts but from your description it does not appear to be the issue. The nare issue may be genetic or one may have some clogging if the environment was very dirty and the food inadequate he or she could have a sinus infection or other metabolic issues. I agree that a Vet visit is needed to determine what the right course is to good health. Meanwhile do offer fresh foods, some scrambled egg with or with out chopped leafy greens or sweet potato stirred in. Please keep us updated we all hope to hear how this lucky bird is doing in your care. It does seem that he or she has a much better chance of a happy life with you. RubyTheCAG
He has an appointment with the local exotic vet next Friday. But then in July he's going to see Dr.Scott when he comes back to my state.
kins2321@yahoo.com
I LOVE exotic vets! Many people dont have them. A simple eye exam can tell you if your new baby can see. Even if blind in the eye, your new friend can see in the other and it shouldnt interfere with probably anything! Thanks for rescuing this baby that really needed you. RubyTheCAG
He is very friendly. Just he seems to be very blind. He is always reaching for something to step up on and always seems like he doesn't know what's going on around him.
