Either it was screaming under there last nite OR there are babies. SOOOOOOOOOOO NOT HAPPY. In googling what the hell I can possibly do ... one of the suggestions was soak a rag in ammonia put at that hole opening and possibly under the house......... I have confirmed it indeed was a skunk since I saw it coming out from the back of my house. :mad::mad::mad::mad: It has already sprayed under there and stunk the whole house up for a WEEK!!!!!!!! Would the smell of ammonia be harmful to Marco? UGH UGH UGH UGH UGH IM SOOOOOOOOO ............................. I tried trapping, filling holes, laying down wire, nothing worked. Finally one died under the center of the house and we could smell it for over 6 months. That's when I got serious. What worked for us was mothballs OR I had cut up our dogs blankets and was putting that in the holes. The skunks moved out and came back a year or so later. I did both again immediately and they left again. I'm not sure which one worked but it was either the mothballs or the predator (my dogs) smell in the blankets. My dogs kept getting sprayed too during this time. On two occasions I saw where my dogs scored a kill but they weren't scoring fast enough to stop the chaos under the house. In the very least pest control companies? I've never had a problems w/the skunks around here. They live out back & we've managed to avoid any drama (knock on wood). But maybe you could try one of the Havahart deterrents (like Critter Ridder)? I have only used the Deer Off which I would happily do a commercial for a 20 yr supply. lol We have a huge, huge problem w/city squirrels which are afraid of nothing absolutely nothing & destructive as all hell. And if they don't have that specific brand, I'd be surprised, but they should have something & a bunch of advice. The feed & grain store is great for this kind of stuff!! Warning The use of mothballs for skunk’s removal is illegal in some states. Mothballs – containing paradichlorobenzene – are considered to be pesticides. The product should be used only inside tightly sealed containers. Read more: http://pestkill.org/rodents/skunks/repellents-and-deterrent-solutions/ I was too scared with the birds and ALL my other outdoor animals to use moth balls The rehabilitator girl brought one of those havaheart traps and that is exactly what it did when she went near it the next day was SHOT stink out ALLLLL over the backside of my house and dear god its knee buckling bad scent .... BUT she is gone gone gone <does the happy dance> I have no answers as well. Just hugs too! I live in a village and pay village taxes for this kind of thing! aerial.2000 Posted February 15, 2016 Author Share Posted February 15, 2016 So as you can see Im happy to report ... momma skunk has been caught and released far far away in a safe trap by a licensed wildlife rehabilitator. We dont think there were babies under the house, the screaming I heard she thinks was the momma and something under there freightening her like a male skunk since its mating season or my cats. So that being said, the scent is dwindling down a bit hole WAS filled in with bricks and dirt. I looked this morning and I'll be a summabuck if something didnt dig it back out however the bricks prevented it from getting under there. Possibly the male skunk looking for another "date nite match" under my house? I dont know. Wish I had my son's deer camera thingy lol. Greywings Posted February 16, 2016 Share Posted February 16, 2016 great save, you might keep on eye out for a neighbor with dogs and just borrow a baggie of dog poo to place in the openings. sounds wierd but it makes the skunks or raccoons believe there is a dog in residence so the wildlife just moves on. Either the heffer had babies under there OR she was entertaining a gentleman caller because once we took her away we covered up the hole and NOW something sounds like it is crawling through my walls !!!!!!!!!!!!!! and it AINT no little mouse :-| so she is coming back TODAY to lay another trap under the far side of the house where we can hear something crawling round and it still stinks in the downstairs bedroom!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That's when I went scorched earth policy on the bastards. The dead one that stunk the place up for 6 months straight to the point we could never have visitors is when I decided I would eventually burn the house down if it came to that. aerial.2000 Posted February 24, 2016 Author Share Posted February 24, 2016 yes yes ... i not only had 2 but ... another one shot his "load" the other night at 130AM under my house that was so horrific it woke up everyone in the house and burned my eyes and nose the rest of the nite IT WAS GLORIOUS GRRRRRRRRRrrrrrrrrrrrrr and the 3rd keeps getting out of the dang trap!!!!!!! so we've nicknamed him houdini ... I cant imagine he figured out how to pull it open once shut but hes gotten out twice now... shakes my head. Im so sick of skunk. I have my mother coming to town in March, my son getting married in March I dont want to be dealing with this. Our issue is squirrels chewing the soffits and entering the attic. When you can here chewing overhead it means yet another repair. I'm going to say that our neighborhood has been using it for the past 8-10 years & those damnable tree rats still find it repulsive. Every year I buy a bottle just about now & spray any garbage cans, the house, deck & shed. Extra under any overhangs or railings that's protected from the rain. Even though a treatment is supposed to last 3 mos, I'll do it again every 5-7 weeks'ish just to be safe & to empty the bottle by the end of the season. If I had one complaint it's the shelf-life is kind of short once it's been opened. Congratulations aerial.2000! Sorry it took so long, but very glad to hear that you finally won the battle!!
