parrotlover13 Posted October 7, 2015 Posted October 7, 2015 I will most likely be an owner to my first african grey on Monday so I decided to join this forum. I have 2 cockatiels and 2 budgies right now. I have handled african greys before and have done lots of research but any info from grey owners is appreciated! I am very excited to get her. She is 7 years old so she is adopted but is tame. I am a teenager who goes to school Monday - Friday so also tips to keep her entertained would help to! Thanks and glad to be joining:)
katana600 Posted October 7, 2015 Posted October 7, 2015 Welcome to the forum and thank you for joining us. Your grey will be a lifelong companion and you will learn a lot from her. What is her name?
Timbersmom Posted October 7, 2015 Posted October 7, 2015 Hello and welcome! My advice would be to read the forum "stickies" and ask any questions you may have. There are many experienced grey owners on the forum who are always willing to help. Good luck and God bless
Acappella Posted October 8, 2015 Posted October 8, 2015 The biggest thing to do to guard against boredom is to supply stimulating toys. Look in the toy forum room. There are lots of ideas there from other members for toys you can make that are less expensive than the store bought ones. Welcome to you and Lilly to the forum!
Greywings Posted October 8, 2015 Posted October 8, 2015 I will add having patience while Lilly (nice name) adjusts to her new home. She may be slow to trust and it could take some time to see her personality blossom. Welcome and glad to see you join us.
Timbersmom Posted October 8, 2015 Posted October 8, 2015 When Lilly gets settled in, you might try foraging toys. They usually enjoy those and it kills some time. You can buy several different kinds or make your own by wrapping food (like a nut or a nutriberry) in paper. When I was working, I would take a small paper bag and stuff it with shredded paper, food wrapped in twists of paper, and that type of thing and put it in Timber's cage.
