Ray P
Amazons and Greys are two awesome parrots to share a life with. They each are so different yet so much alike. Life with an Old World and New World parrot can help bring out a understanding of each other. They each can be socialized and build a strong bond with more than one person, but you need to take the time, the one on one time to start a relationship, build a bond and than socialize. It is often said that Amazons and Greys are one person parrots for the most part (bull) it doesn`t have to be that way. A self confident person (not domineering and not a person that will bend at a challenge) can do very well with each of the two. They both can be sweet and they both can be challenging. Building a relationship, than a bond and socializing can and will make a difference. Remember with a Amazon when they are in season. When Mother Nature calls they will listen, but this too will pass and with age it will lesson. When ever Cricket and Corky were out together they were supervised.

BaileysPapa
Well put, Ray. My birds are from Africa, Australia & South America. Well, not ACTUALLY PERSONALLY from there. They all get along fine with myself & my wife & each other. Everyone needs to respect each other's natural tendencies and behavior, while guiding them within the boundaries that they must live. Even my little Budgies have their own rights, respect and boundaries (both their own & imposed upon them).
katana600
Ray, over the years, your words have been a beacon pointing the way for us to learn about Miss Gilbert and to lead the way for her to become an integral family member. It takes a delicate dance of knowing when to give them space and when to give a little nudge to get them moving in the right direction. I like to think of it as resonance. If you push a child on a swing at the right time in the natural frequency they will soar higher. If you push when they are on a downswing it will stop them abruptly. We have just had to learn Gil's natural frequencies. Your gentle teaching and guidance and words have been so helpful to us.
Greywings
That is the solution a condo just for Parrot people it would be like a Purple Martin house for humans. I think that maybe the Cockatoo folks might need their own place.
Muse
Very good advice, Ray. If there is one thing I have learned in all the years of developing relationships with animals is not to ever subscribe to pre-conceived human notions of how animals "ought" to behave. I think we try too hard to put everything in neat little categories, when it's really so much more complex than all that. Our Grey and Amazon are in love. It amazed me to see it develop. She wanted to be near him from the first day he was here. And he was entranced with her. When they first had the chance to be near each other, their first interaction was him trying to feed her. Megan was at first very bitey and aggressive with me. Time, patience and love changed all that. Rasa has been a sweetheart to me. He's a bit less so with hubby but I believe he's jealous because Megan adores her daddy. Rasa has not been too bad this "season" however Honey... well that's another story. But even though she's a bit more high-strung right now, she still hasn't been what I'd call aggressive. They are so incredibly beautiful and there are times when Rasa just takes my breath away. Beautiful pictures, Ray, thanks for sharing.
