debstein
So, every day has been like Christmas lately, as all the free samples of parrot food began arriving. We got free food from Harrisons, Roudybush, Hagen, and Pretty Bird. They ranged in size from tiny Harrisons packets, to a huge 3 lb bag of Pretty Bird pellets! Romo believes that the Harrisons (I know it's supposed to be the BEST) belongs on the bottom of the cage with the newspapers and parrot poop. He wouldn't even try them, and I tried every trick I read about getting him to eat them. He likes the Roudybush, and ate the Pretty Bird. But the clear winner is Hagen. They sent a bag of Tropimix parrot, which he absolutely LOVES, and a bag of Tropicans Lifetime Parrot Sticks, also a favorite. The best thing about this experiment is that he is enjoying and eating pellets, and the Hagen pellets aren't colored, so I dont have to worry about that. He did like the Pretty Bird pellets, but they are bright colored and I personally wanted to avoid that if possible. On the cooked food front, he loves the Beak Appetit foods, and I have a large supply of meal-sized bags in the freezer, that only have to be defrosted and warmed a little. I did have to purchase the Beak Appetit foods, but read so many rave reviews that I felt pretty safe spending the money.:cheer: Thanks soooo much to whoever it was that posted about the free food samples - I am thrilled that I was able to find him healthy food that he loves and I can feel good about feeding him, and it didn't cost me anything to try them.B)
MakenasDad
Thanks for posting, it's great to hear that you've received such a large amount of some products. We've considered doing that as well, but there are only a couple that are carried in our local pet store, and if we found something other than what's local the only other way to go is mail order. Something to consider I guess when requesting samples...
