Ray P
With the loss of Cricket 2014 it turned into an awful year for me that I can`t seam to get over. When ever I try to write about Amazons or Cricket I feel so empty. If friends ask me about Cricket or Amazons my voice cracks when I try to talk. When I`m alone and think of Cricket, tears come to my eyes. I was in a pet store last week, the one we have dealt with for the better part of 30 years and they had a very young Yellow Nape Amazon that was out and on a perch and talking up a storm. It jumped from its perch to my shoulder and we started to play and we were having a good time and the owner ran over and said Ray be careful she is mean and bites. We played for over an hour and she never bit me, She would put her head down for head scratches and would make those beautiful Amazon sounds. As I left the shop I hoped that she would go to a good home and be loved like I loved Cricket.
judygram
Ray, maybe you should seriously consider giving this amazon a new home, I know it would not be a replacement for Cricket but you seem to have a lot of love in your heart for amazons and it would be a shame if it couldn't be shared with this bird, please at least think about it. Brat Birds
Yes, I really expected to hear that she went home with you Ray. You can't replace but you can expand. You have the love to give. And the experience! And we all know that Amazons need experience! LOL
Greywings
Well I would say it sounds like she selected you Ray.
Timbersmom
I agree, go for it Ray! Our beloved companions can never be replaced, but a new one warms that empty place in our heart and quickly make their own place.
Luvparrots
What a lovely meeting Ray. When I see young pugs, I smile as I remember my Lily, 13 year old pug who moved on a few months ago. I have not replaced her, I don't think I can. Some day Ray, you will know when it is time, if ever.
katana600
Ray, we have missed your smiling, gregarious self as you find your way in the void left by your beloved Cricket. As you get back on your feet, dare to trust yourself to the idea of greeting and playing with another Amazons. If you feel like moving forward would be an affront to Cricket, think about that light in your eyes, smile on your face and spring in your step that comes from remembering your love of your special girl. It's a tribute and honor to her memory when the happiness you gained overcomes the grief of her loss. I was just visiting today with Agatha, a Mealy Amazon. When she did the signature purring and call of an Amazon, I wanted to give her a hug myself. Muse
Ray, I am so sorry for your loss. I know how hard it is. It's been exactly one year ago today...and I still feel the loss of my beloved boy every bit as deeply. It's so hard but we have to hang on to the good memories and wait for the day when we see them again. I truly believe we will. It sounds like the little Amazon fell in love with you. If it's one thing Rasa has taught me, it is Amazon's love when and who they want, and they love hard. The big, scary 'mate killer' bird is the most sweet and gentle love to his little Grey girlfriend. I hope that maybe you will decide to be that 'good home' for this Amazon and the love for that little Amazon. She couldn't hope for anything better, I believe. Maybe in that special way that birds seem to have, she knew that when she met you. Megan was the "mean" and "bitey" one at the store when we got Marden and their breeder confided to us he was afraid he'd never find a good home for her because she bit everyone who held her. Hard. But she fell in love with my husband and we took that chance. Three years, and a lot of scars later, I think she loves me, in her own way. Never llike she loves her daddy, of course. And not even as much as she loves Rasa. But the bites come less and less. And the kisses come more and more. I'm glad we took the chance with her. I wouldn't have it any other way. murfchck
Ray, you know when it will be right for you but it does sound like the one you described picked you. There is enough room in your heart for another and I don't think Cricket would mind, he would want to you to be happy! Big hugs!!!
