ikklecaz
i have thought about getting a harness for max and may be taking him to school with me when i pick the kids up as when i am home all day with him he just follows me around and then when i have to go out i feel guilty for leaving him,so was just wondering if anyone had any opinions on me taking him out with me. caryl xxxxxx
spookyhurst
I take Nikko out with me, but not in a harness (I haven't been able to get her in one). I have a backpack/cage called an Adventure Pack. She loves to ride in the car and go out and meet new people. It's another good way to socialize your bird . spookyhurst
Many online bird store carry them. Google "Adventure Bird Pack" and you'll find many of them. The price varies, so you'll want to look around for the best deal. Sometimes "The Perch Store" puts them on sale. Here's a picture of me and Nikko at a Blessing of the Animals event:
BMustee
I have a "Feather Tether" harness for my grey and I take him with me when I go to the pet stores that let you bring your animals in and I took him into 7-11 a few times too...lots of fun for the both of us. Christina
Finnigan has the Aviator Harness. I take him for a walk (he is on my shoulder) and to the stores like BMustee, and to work with me once a week. It took a while to get him used the harness, but once there, he doesn't mind and loves the trips around town. I would definetly recommend the harnesses available (our b&g has the Feather Teather). It opens a whole new world for your bird.
Tokisdad
I purchased the Aviator Harness also. Or as Toki thinks of it; the "Satanic Bird Eating Noose of Death". My hands are covered with bleeding holes from trying to put it on her. I gave up, it's nothing more than a chew toy now. However, she will allow me to place a Velcro band around her leg. I attached the band to the elastic leash that came with the above item. We go to all over town now and she loves going. Think about making your own, you know what your bird will and won't allow, It's fun to do and saves a chunk of money....
MakenasDad
We also use the Aviator Harness for Makena. Although he doesn't like it 100%, he will tolerate us putting it on, and will bite at it once it's on him. We go out for walks with him as frequently as we can to try to get him used to it. It's best to start them young. I've heard that the older they are the more difficult it can be to get on, and longer it takes as well. I've provided a link if it helps. This is THE harness to get if you're considering one. Everyone here who has one, uses this one.. Hope this helps, and best of luck! http://www.theparrotuniversity.com/instructions.php
