Guest
I wanted to share how well Maggie is coming along...... She is growing in confidence and into her feet. Lol. She was a little clumsy at first . Thanks to everyone on this forum for all your posts I have learned so much in such a short time. She is a cuddlier and so sweet with me but she squawks at everyone else. Still a work in progress with this issue. She is already trained to poop on paper but also in her cage. She is also target trained with clicker. I say let's go night night and she flies to the stairs so excited to go up and go night night in her sleep cage. She lets me pet her all over and touch her feet. She is still a little nervous when I try to spread her wings tho. Any suggestions? She loves sweet potatoes and broccoli but she is not a fan of fruit. I do feed her palm oil on her food and she also gets avian trio. She takes a soaking shower every other day and on the other days I spray her with a sprayer with aloe juice. She is not a fan of a soaking shower she tolerates it but she likes the light mist aloe sprayer. Again, I thank all of you for the wealth of knowledge on this forum. It has made my first bird experience a pleasurable one and I look forward to all the fun years to come.
Steve 2
"growing into her feet" lol! Toulouse (tag) "the goose" is 3 yrs old and has not caught up with his feet yet!! Toulouse does not do well with my son and wife when he is out of the cage. He likes them best when he is in the cage and they are not. We could probably do better on this but both son and wife would need to be willing to put in a lot of work and who likes to get bit. They are both animal lovers and do interact with Toulouse when he in his cage. Actually Toulouse will only learn words from my wife and son, doesn't seem interested in what I have to say. Not sure when this developed to this point, he was sweet to everyone as a baby and then not. Best wishes for your efforts with Maggie to socialize her to others. Many here on this site have been very successful. Steve.
Acappella
She lets me pet her all over and touch her feet. She is still a little nervous when I try to spread her wings tho. Any suggestions? I can touch Dorian pretty much anywhere, but forget about spreading his wings, he's drawn a very clear line there. It's why I've never even considered harness training for him. He's happy and safe enough going outside in his travel cage. You're right about family members, they'd have to commit to training and very likely taking some bites to change their relationship. If everyone's content with the way things are then leave well enough alone for now. Lol at "growing into her feet"
SRSeedBurners
The way I got GreycieMae comfortable with me opening her wings (one at a time) is by cupping her in my hands, her head pointed towards my chest and pointing her red tail up and then giving her kisses on her back. That progressed to me putting my hands under her wings and finally I can lift her wing with my hand and put my face under her wing. It's sort of a game to her as I 'snort' and 'snuffle' while I'm doing it and she snorts and snuffles back to me. As long as she perceives it as me playing with her she'll let me do it. She'll even ask for a tickle tickle while I'm doing it sometimes.

Guest
Acapella. Thanks. My husband decided to buy his own bird because Maggie wouldn't play with him nicely. Lol. So now we have his and her feathered friends. We shall see how this goes. Thanks
Acappella
Is he getting another Grey? Make sure that Maggie is still treated as 1st bird. First to get out, get fed, get attention. Otherwise she might get jealous of the newcomer. They may never be buddies, but there's a better chance they'll tolerate each other this way. Guest
Well he decided on a dbl yellow head amazon. He named him Jack. He is not at all like my Maggie. He is not a fan of cuddle time nor does he really let you pet him in any way. He is still young tho. Dob. 7-22. I will keep you all posted. Thanks.
