Aluminum cages

Aluminum cages are usually the cages people go after if they have the money. They are among the most durable as they will not rust. If welded properly (I used to weld aluminum) a gorilla cannot get out of them. OTOH, I can't justify the expense of an aluminum cage unless I was going to keep it outside in an all-weather situation. What's your apprehension about an aluminum cage? You're other big $$$ option is stainless.

I'm afraid of aluminum cages because of the info that's starting to emerge about the potential health risks to humans. Birds have their mouths on their cage all the time, so personally I'll pass for the time being, just in case. Since they cost nearly as much as a nice safe rehomed stainless cage, I'd opt for that instead ...if I could afford one. lol

I do have aluminum carry cages, which I love. The fids are only in them for short periods of time & don't tend to climb them much. They're the safest built cages I've found, so I have kept them & cross my fingers.

From what I read when researching HRH's new cage, anondizing the aluminum is supposed to help prevent it from leaching and/ or being reactive. I went with stainless steel, because I just felt that as much as Inara has her mouth on her cage, that it would be prudent until more definitive studies are done. They do look like nice cages, are more lightweight, but I'm old fashioned and have always stayed away from aluminum or acidic things next to aluminum.

I'm with you guys on the potential health risks...aluminum cages are relatively new...vs powder coated, which admittedly have their drawbacks...and stainless steel, which are very expensive. But our birds spend so much time in their cages...their mouths on the bars. I'd rather stick with something with a long history of safety.
