Need Avian ophthalmologists in Southern Florida

My Huey has cateracts. I need to have them looked at the next 6 months while I'm in Florida since there aren't any in the state of Maine. I know there are animal ophthalmologists but I want an avian one. Only the best for my Huey.

Do a search on the internet. There are no specialists for ophthalmologists that I could find, but there are Avian Vets in Florida.

If you don't mind my asking, how old is your Grey? Does anyone know if Cataracts are common in Greys as the grow older?

 

Please update us on what the Avian vet says about them and if surgery is available for this.

Dan i had a little search & in general from what i can tell cataracts seem to be more common in older birds generally a sign of old age.Hopefully someone can fill us in a little more.

I am in Southwest Florida and I would love to know if there is a avian eye doctor around. Keep us posted on your findings.

Wow, I don't know about cataracts, but here is a link to the Vet I use, she is in Tampa, FL. If you like what you see, you could call and talk to her and see if she has experience with cataracts.

I hope this works, I was looking at the macaw forum and they had this article on there. It specifically speaks about cataracts (in macaws). I figured it has a vet listed on the top and if they do cataract surger for macaws, surely they have experience in other species.

I found Dr. Z at Plantation Animal Hospital. Shes helping me with my greys calcium levels we did an injection hopefully that will take care of the picking and it's not gout.
