BaileysPapa
How do you guys trim/file your birds' nails? I'm thinking of getting a Dremel tool. What size is best? And what type of file bits should I use? A nail file just isn't sufficient anymore. Anyone who uses a similar tool, how does your bird react? Ideas? danmcq
We use a small variable speed dremel that came with a whole case full of accessories. We use the little sanding wheel to trim Dayos Nails and a rather lower speed otherwise it will start getting the nail too hot.
kins2321@yahoo.com
Ummmm I am a chicken. We have Spa day. Birds go to trimmer for weight, trimming annoying feathers, beaks and nails. They LOVE it! They have had the same groomer for over a decade, Nancy
Brat Birds
I clip with a dog's nail clipper. Tried the rotating file but the noise got to my Grey. The Sun's nails aren't as heavy so I can use either cat scissors or the dog's nail clipper. My Tiel gets the cat nail scissors.
KimKim
I have a sandy corner perch in his cage that he sits on a lot and it keeps his nails from needing trimmed.
Dave007
It's been yrs since I trimmed my birds' nails. I too used a dremel but that was a time when the very first Dremel model was finally on the market years ago. All of my birds have a concrete perch in each cage and that does the job very well. Plus I never bought the dremel for them. I needed it for some projects.
Ray P
I have a concrete perch in each of my birds cage and have used them for years. I have not had a need to trim any of their nails.
Timbersmom
Wish it went that way at my house. Timber has a concrete perch the he uses a lot and often sleeps on. His nails still need trimming every six months. All I am saying is that what works for some doesn't work for all. It's all good
aerial.2000
marco also has tons of different perches that were sposed to help her nails but doesnt seem to, she gets trimmed every few months and since the parrot house closed I have started to do it myself. I have to towel her clip and then use just a reg. nail file. It goes pretty quick and it makes MY ARM feel so much better when she climbs up on it lol
Luvparrots
My flock have cement perches and if they need a little trim I towel the bird so he/she can't see and hold them while my daughter uses nail clippers to remove the pointed tips of the nail. Quick and easy.
