First time here and thanks cx very helpful

I brought each of my greys home in a travel cage. Actually the same ones they have now. I talked to my new grey on the way home and told him what was happening. I would not recommend holding your grey or any companion while driving passenger or driver because you never know when an accident can happen. A treat or two for your grey on the way home would be great. Looking forward to hearing how the trip home goes. Welcome to the Grey family.

I second the travel cage idea, Jake came with a pet carrier which we plan to replace with a parrot friendly travel cage. We drove 12 hrs one way to get him and 12 hrs back. We did lots of talking and whistling with him. I also grabbed some straws along the way for him to chew on so that he had something else to help keep his stress down. I would recommend a couple of small and simple chew toys that your new grey may already be familiar with. Though a new large toy most likely will scare the bejeezus out of the little guy more.

Welcome. That cage should work IF the perch is placed so the baby can stand on it without having to bend. Take small slices of apple to offer the baby. This not only gives him something to chew on, it also gives him some moisture. A couple small toys would be great. Two hours isn't all that long, so I think he will make it with less stress than you! LOL I also would not recommend holding him all the way home. Although, I will admit to doing that very thing before I realized how dangerous it could be.

Our macaw use to ride on the head rest of the passenger seat until there was a quick stop and he went to the floor board. He was okay that time, my seat however is not from him trying to climb back up while hubby was having to continue to drive... New rule was made that day - no more uncrated birds in the cars! lol It really isn't safe for them or us.

Congrats on the new addition, what beautiful colors! We have one with the red like that but she is a plucker so if its ok, i will be picturing your birds body on my gals head until they come back in! lol I see that caption, Mr Rett Butler, is that his name? If not, what is his name? As far as bonding, that will come naturally with your everyday activities as long as he is a part of them. Talking, singing, dancing like a fool and reading out loud to him along with just being there for him. You will do just greyt!!

Ok goodness I was stressed out!! He did not want to go in the cage he love me instantly and he did not want to leave me!!! So I have to admit I sat in the back and I cuddled him and he totally settled down!! He got so upset in the cage trying to get to me he hurt his toe and it bleed I was freaking out omg!! I'm a dog groomer so I had blood stop in my car and it didn't bleed long but for those seconds?? Help me lord!!

So we get him home and he did not want nothing to do with that cage at all!! I left him for 10 minutes in my room to calm a lil and went in to check on him lol he rushed to my foot and flew up my leg and no way was he letting go!! I took him out he meet the family...my niece and her 2 kids live with me now til next month. He let them feed him he was so cute. He just wanted to be with me!

He's finally to bed in his cage for the night!! Can't wait til tomorrow!

Hello Corine and welcome to our family.

Mr Rett Butler is adorable and I see he has some red factor there in his chest area, how neat and he only wanted to be with you and not in that travel cage but that is something you can work on to get him used to it for it will be needed for vet visits and such. I can't wait to hear more of how he settles into his new home and more pictures would be nice too.
