ILMAG
I am fairly new to this website - I have only written one other time before but check back for advice on a regular basis. I have a 15 month Congo named Frankie who has plucking issues. He is still beautiful and has his "moments" when he is "attitudinal." Frankie nods his head when I ask him if he wants to come to see me and makes kissing sounds at me when he wants me to pay attention to him. A real romeo. My reason for writing this evening is to see if anyone knows about using a Delonghi oil heater around their birds? This is a self-contained unit (radiator)and would be ideal for keeping his room nice and warm during the winter months provided it is safe. With the weather dipping way down at night now, I need to know as soon as possible. Any help would be appreciated. Also, previous recommendations to use the aloe vera juice for pleather plucking has seemed to help a bit. He doesn't particularly care for being sprayed but I will continue. Thanks to everyone for the recommendation! I hope to be able to post photos of him soon.
Dave007
The 2 major things you have watch out for are 1--actual temperature of his area. It should't exceed 72/74 degrees. 2--Humidity-- a room that's very dry causes dry, scaly skin and creates itching. If your heater creates excessive dryness in his area, you might have to move him. judygram
You don't want to keep his room too warm for the reason of dry skin like Dave mentioned. You can get some humidifiers to increase the humidity but those aloe vera juice baths are going to help too.
birdgranna
You need to check that there is no Teflon in your heater.
