Hi, I'm a newbie on here I have a 6 year old CAG called Rio and I have had him for about 3 months now, iv joined the group because I like reading all the stories and good advice and look forward to reading more and I know if I have any worries there will be some kind people that will be there with advice

Welcome Sabina and Rio. He seems to be looking longingly to the outside of his cage. LOL He is a doll. How did you come to get him? Is he your first parrot? I am looking forward to more stories about his antics.

Hi, I had opened rios door for him to come out but wanted to get a crafty pic first lol, he is my first parrot even though I wanted one for years so I did a lot of research and decided to get one and I don't regret any minute, he is such a laid back calm bird who came from a young couple who unfortunately couldn't keep him for genuine reasons.i think I'm doing a good job so far he is currently more of a whistler than talker but I'm hopeing to change that with time lol.

Hi Sabina and Rio, welcome to the forum. There is nothing like sharing the love of your life with others who understand. Most family and friends listen for six seconds about life with a parrot and can't understand the charm. LOL. We are all privy to a special kind of magic when we offer our home and our heart to such a wonderful companion.

I wondered is it normal that me and my husband are Mum and dad to rio by name and not our actual name if you know what I mean like I will say to rio give mum a kiss lol, is there others out there who do same?

Yes, I'll admit to it! We call each other by our actual names and by "mama and daddy" just like we did with the kids.

Hello Sabina and welcome to our family.

Congrats on taking Rio in and giving him a new forever home, he is a cutie pie from the picture in your signature line. You certainly did your homework to find out all you could before you made the final decision, they are complex creatures but once you understand them they are a delightful member of your family and yes we refer to ourselves as mommy and daddy to our fids, they are our children after all, not by birth of course but thru the heart.

You will find lots of useful information in our many threads but if you have any questions please just feel free to ask away and we will do our best to get you an answer, nothing like firsthand experience to quell your fears.

Thank you, there was so much to learn but all worth it and it's like having a naughty toddler in the house even though mostly he is a good boy, I say to him your a good boy aren't you! Then I answer sometimes! LOL
