Hi everyone picking up my 5 year old grey tomorrow. He has been keeping his old lady owner company since he hatched but unfortunately she can no longer look after him....he looks in good health and I've booked him into the vets for a full check up....

Is there anything I should be doing to help him settle in quick?

After getting him home, put him in the cage and don't overly fuss with him. Let him get used to the new home, surroundings, new people, other pets. This usually takes at least a few days. Talk softly to him. Feed some nuts through the cage only. If he accepts, fine. If not, just don't force it. He'll be accepting things soon enough.I don't know his personality but when you pick him up tommorro, find out about his present complete diet, whehyer he sleeps with a cover at night, whether he bites, ask whether he's finger trained, how much time he spends out of the cage, ask about partcular things he may be afraid of. try to take some of his present toys home with you. Basically, try to get as much info as possible. Don't be afraid to ask questions. Others here can tell you more. Good luck.

Hello Dean and welcome to our family.

So you are taking in a rehome, is this your first grey, first bird? When you bring him home put him into his cage and give him time to settle in, you can open his cage door and see if he wants to come out, if he does then go from there, let him decide when he is ready to come out and when he wants to interact with you, never push him into doing something he isn't comfortable with. You want to build a good relationship with him and gain his trust, that trust has to be earned and it could take a while for him to come to trust you but it will be worth it. Sit by his cage and talk to him, you can read to him or just tell him what a good boy he is and so forth, offer him a treat.

I'm glad to hear you have booked him a vet appointment, if he has any problems or health issues the vet should find him and he can give you answers to some of your questions but do ask any questions you may have, we are not vets here but we have lots of experience in dealing with these awesome creatures and many of us have been thru what you are about to undertake, just take your time and be very patient with him as he comes to being your new forever companion.

Pictures would be most appreciated when you get him home.
