Michellec Posted October 26, 2013 Posted October 26, 2013 We are hours from an certified avian vet........ I called and left a message with the gal we bought Nala from to get her advice but have not heard back yet, and being a new parront, I'm naturally concerned. I think there is a vet about 2 hours drive from here who is not avian but I heard they see birds....not sure of hours on a weekend. We live VERY rural. Suggestions? Thanks. Michelle
Michellec Posted October 26, 2013 Author Posted October 26, 2013 Oh, I looked at the bottom of her foot and it appears normal. She is playing like usual, but is favoring her right foot.
Talon Posted October 26, 2013 Posted October 26, 2013 My cockatiel just had the same symptoms. Feel his foot, is it warmer than the other one? If not, he may just have injured it. I took my cockatiel to the vet and he said he sprained it somehow, probably when he fell, as he only has feathers on one wing and lands hard when he does all on that side. The vet said it cN take 2 weeks for him to be better, but we already see an improvement after4-5 days.
Michellec Posted October 26, 2013 Author Posted October 26, 2013 Thanks. Husband is not stressed. She was playing first thing this morning and did some climbing, but now is chilling in her cozy area in her cage. I'll feel her foot next time she comes out of her cage.
Michellec Posted October 26, 2013 Author Posted October 26, 2013 I love her so much that my first reaction was WORRY! So glad she is in our family.
Timbersmom Posted October 26, 2013 Posted October 26, 2013 I know how you feel. I look Timber over every day (droppings, manner, eyes, behavior) like he is the crown prince. I'm not sure I was that observant with my kids! In fact, I'm pretty sure I wasn't. On the other hand, since they hide illness we have to be vigilant.
kins2321@yahoo.com Posted October 29, 2013 Posted October 29, 2013 Give Nala some time. May definitely be a sprain. If you can get Nala out to walk across a hard surface... they look " bowlegged", but if favoring one leg, check they other for swelling and deformity. Nancy
