SullysMom
I've been noticing over the last while that my 10 month old African Grey's beak has been changing. Not sure if I should be concerned or if this is normal. Any info or advice would be great!
SRSeedBurners
Looking at the picture and it may just be the angle, it looks like that is more than just normal beak flaking. Looks like he is filing it away on something as it looks very squared off. Is he doing that himself?
Greywings
A good question, the beak looks to be a bit thickened. No worries about the normal peeling layers although it does look like she may have broken a bit more off than is normal. You may want to ask your Vet if you have concerns about the appearance of that beak. She looks clear eyed and her nares look good, happy bird face. JeffNOK
It does appear to be normal beak flaking mainly. I'm not an expert by any means, but there don't appear to be any injuries. Otherwise your grey looks very healthy.
BaileysPapa
Lafaber did an article on beaks a few weeks ago in their weekly newsletter. You might want to check it out at Lafaber.com . Also you can enter a monthly raffle for $50.00 of Nutri-Berries, Avi-Cakes, and other Lafaber products.
SullysMom
The only way he might have caused this himself is when he's put into his cage when he doesn't want to be there he grabs the cage bars with his beak and chews/snaps them (not breaking them of course but yanking at them) making such a loud noise. But that isn't often. Thanks for the info. Ill make an appointment just to be sure!
Greywings
If there is no pain and the missing portion is your concern then that should not be a problem or health issue for Sully.
