Lupine
Hi there! I'm here in Portland, Oregon and I've wanted a Grey for quite some time. I've been lurking a little while, but since I will have a couple questions of my own soon, I figured I'd make my introductions. A bit about my household: My bf and I work mostly from home. We've got two dogs and a cat, all of whom are accustomed to big bitey birds as I work with raptors. I have experience with Hahn's Macaws and cockatiels, but a Grey would be a new adventure for certain. I'm looking forward to learning as much as possible about TAGs and CAGs, and am currently in the process of meeting potential placement birds. Cheers! Ray P
Hi Lupine and welcome to you and your bf to the grey forum. TAG or CAG are awesome companion parrots and will take you on a lifetime of adventures. Read all you can and meet them if you can and pick the one that feels right. Rehome or baby, TAG or CAG, they are great.
Greywings
Raptors are beautiful birds but a predator of Greys. Have both CAG & TAG here for me the CAG's are easier for me to bond with, for my adult son the TAG's love him so just meet the birds and see which one selects you. danmcq
Welcome Lupine. It's GreYt having you here. Ask all the questions you wish. I would love to see any photos you may have of the Raptors you work with and also hearing about your experiences with them.
Luvparrots
Well howdy, I am just across the river from you. Love this great Northwest! I have always been fascinated by raptors and am so jealous of your job any pictures or information on them would be appreciated. As for the greys, both TAGs and CAGs are marvelous creatures. I would go with the one what chooses you. My Ana Grey (tag) is a true lady and my Sterling Gris (cag) is a big brute and I love them both.
Brat Birds
Hello and welcome. Did you have any specific questions that we might answer? As said before, if you are visiting birds, one will surely 'pick' you!
Lupine
Thanks for the welcomes! First, I would be sure that the parrot would be safe from the raptors, for sure; the latter have their own facilities, while the parrot would be a house bird. I've got a good resource in a friend who has a CAG as well as a falconry bird. (If you haven't heard of Rebecca K O'Connor, by all means google her; she writes about both her birds, as well as other wonderful stuff). I'll post pics of my crew in the appropriate section at some point, but for now I'm sponging up all of everyone's Grey posts and pics! I will say that raptors definitely have their own personalities, as well. They are very different from parrots in that they are not typically social birds. One exception is the Harris' Hawk, which cooperatively hunt desert terrain in family units, or in groups of two or more as falconry teams. I was visiting The Bird Hut, "the" local bird store today. There's a baby TAG there that has been sold, and will be going home to its owner soon. Absolutely adorable; always trying to get attention and still working on his coordination. Heartbreakingly sweet little guy (girl?).
Brat Birds
The babies are all so sweet. You hate not being able to take them all home!! LOL Good luck with your search and please remember to keep us posted.
Cosmos_Friend
Lupine, Welcome! You've certainly joined the right site for any question you have, or to share with us your joyous moments (and concerns) about your future Grey. I've had quite a few parrots of different species in the past but nothing like my CAG. I couldn't have imagined that I would become so bonded and captivated as I've become with Cosmo. There's never a dull moment!
