Wood perch okay to sleep on?

Hi, the highest perch in my cage is a natural wood one and this is where my baby grey sleeps. Will it not hurt his feet if he spends a lot of time on it? And should I replace it with a rope perch, would that be more comfortable for his feet? Or is it just a matter of preference for each bird?

I have wood, cement and rope perches for my parrots. They choose where to sleep all by themselves.

Same here. When I first rehomed Timber, I took him to the vet. She suggested that I put a concrete perch highest to help with his nails. She said they tend to sleep on the highest perch available. In Timber's case, it is true. He sleeps on whatever perch is highest in the cage. Timber is an adult though, and you have a baby. I don't have any experience to offer there!

Just make sure he has a variety of perches to choose from and he will not spend all his time on the same one. If you are worried about his sleeping on the same one, just rotate them so a different one is the highest in the cage each time.

They will pick the place and the perch they like best.

Well, tree limbs are wood which is what they sleep on in the wild.

 

So, wood, cement, rope etc. whatever is the highest and their preference is where they will perch and sleep.
