I have a Sunconure who is a little over a year old, I was holding him/her the other day (not sure of sex) and Sammie started making little noises I have not heard before and started biting my finger and Sam had all the feather fluffed up....he wasn't biting me to hurt me, just holding on...I handed him to my husband, who thought this was funny, but Sammie has only done this once more, and only to me...what do you think?

While I have no suns I do know that mating behavior should be discouraged. So when he does his "thing" but him back in his cage or on this play stand. He well get the pictures sooner or later.

Good Luck

My sun conure will be 3 years old in January and I have not had her sexed, but she does some stuff that I think is some type of mating behavior and I just distract her and ignore it. I keep referring to her as a she but she may be a he for all I know.

Sounds sexual to me too.. just don't encourage it, if your bird is female, she may start laying eggs, and while that is not necessarily a problem, she may end up eggbinding.

If i were you I would read up on the signs and symptoms of eggbinding in conures..They are probably pretty much the same for all birds, but see if there is anything specific for your bird.

my eleven year old grey decided to lay an egg or two- and became eggbound. Luckily I noticed it fairly early, and my vet was able to extract one and the second one broke inside her. The shells passed eventually - thank god.

Its just one of the things you have to look for.
