KevinD Posted June 17, 2013 Posted June 17, 2013 Well, I finally tired of trying to find a way to upload and post videos, so I made one. Feel free to use it. Finally got Sukei to eat some fruit! Watch "Sukei Likes Apples" 1
DogsBirdsFish Posted June 17, 2013 Posted June 17, 2013 Love the video. My Emma will not eat an apple slice but loves eating the core.
KevinD Posted June 17, 2013 Author Posted June 17, 2013 Hmm, maybe I am wrong but I made extra sure to remove the core because they said the core has trace amounts of arcenic in it, I could have read it wrong. Maybe someone with more knowledge can chime in...
danmcq Posted June 17, 2013 Posted June 17, 2013 Cute video. Yes, it is better to remove the core/seeds.

I have read a couple books on Greys and when I read that apple seeds contained a trace amount of cyanide I didn't give it much thought as my Emma did not like apples. Then the other day she was really interested in the apple I was eating so I gave her the core (expecting her to drop it) and was surprised that she ate it.

Magnificent looking Parrot. Sukei is molting, so she is having a bad feather day lol
Ray P Posted June 18, 2013 Posted June 18, 2013 Great video and pictures. Love to watch them eat when they find something they like.

Maybe someone with more knowledge can chime in... They contain a cyanide precursor that metabolises into cyanide but they would have to eat a lot to do any harm but I never take the chance. Cherry pits, plum and apricot and related fruits contain similar potentially poisonous compounds. Steve n Misty
kins2321@yahoo.com Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 When I provide a dish to my birds that they all share...it is three parts veggies/two parts fruit. I cut up apples, pears, plums, etc. No seeds. Nancy
