Painting Toys

Recommended Posts

I have been looking and looking at how to paint my homemade bird toys. So much conflicting info on the net. Can anyone please tell me what they use for painted toys, or give me any advice, I would greatly appreciate it. I have tried non painted toys and all three of my birds prefer the pretty colors. LOL go figure.

Thanks,

Wayne

Here you go, sorry it took me so long..................

Yellow

  1. Bring 2-cups of water to a boil.
  2. Let the water cool for 1 minute.
  3. Add a small amount of turmeric to the water.
  4. Continue adding little bits of turmeric until you reach the desired color.
  5. Store in a glass container after cooling.

Red

  1. Add several medium-size, unpeeled beets to a pan and cover them with water.
  2. SImmer the beets for 35 minutes or until they can be pierced with a fork.
  3. Remove the pan from the heat and let it cool.
  4. Peel the beets.
  5. Chop the beets and put them back into the pan with the water.
  6. Leave the pan for several hours, watching as the color of the water changes.
  7. Strain the liquid through a piece of cheesecloth into a glass jar.
  8. Mix 2 teaspoons of organic white vinegar into the water.
  9. Shake well and store.

Green

  1. Place 2-cups of fresh spinach leaves in a pot.
  2. Cover the leaves with water.
  3. Boil the leaves for 1-minute.
  4. Let the pot simmer for 10 minutes.
  5. Allow the water to cool.
  6. Strain the colored water through a cheesecloth into a galss jar.
  7. Store with a tight fitting lid.

Thanks so much for the information, I am going to try these all today.

If nothing else, you will end up with some beets, turmeric and spinach to eat and some kool-aid to wash it down with. :P

My question is, do you have a humongous tank filled with this coloring to place your tree in to let it soak in to color it? :P

Either my DS did something wrong or the kool aid method doesn't work very well. About a year ago he colored some pine pieces red and it bleed off onto his quaker. Poor Isabelle was a blue and red quaker for a while. It scared the dickens out of him when it first happened. He thought she was hurt.
