Carolina
Hello Everyone! So, I have been searching to see if there is another way besides ziploc bags to store the chop in the freezer. I'm a bit of a tree hugger and hated throwing out so many of those bags. I found freezer trays for baby food that could replace the bags and be reused. birdhouse
Thanks. I'm w/you on the plastic bags! I originally tried ice cube trays, too. But after a while, I wasn't crazy about working w/them. I'd just as soon avoid plastic containers, anyway. So, I found these type of 6 oz glass containers. http://www.amazon.com/Kitchen-Supply-Ounce-Glass-Custard/dp/B001HIAD2Y/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1359311625&sr=8-5&keywords=pyrex+4+oz+glass+food+storage+containers They're a nice size to store on the door. A cup will thaw overnight in the fridge. Each portion lasts roughly 2 days per fid. Don't have to worry about random chunks keeping the cover from sealing & the food just seemed fresher. I also like the way they clean compared to anything else. So, if the trays don't work out long term, this might be another alternative.
judygram
I am using more and more glass containers for frankly they say heating foods in the microwave is not safe in plastic anymore but I do occasionally use the ice cube trays to freeze the food then remove and store in freezer bags then nuke it in glass containers. danmcq
I personally still use small snack size ziplock baggies. However, we recycle all our plastics, cardboard, metals etc.
carolz7
I love the idea of the freezer trays. I too hate wasting stuff and this way you can have it portion size ready to go.
Spinner
1-cup Ziploc Snap 'n Seal cups. Available at Walmart and Target. These are sold in boxes of 12 or so, and dishwasher cleaned, and reused. I mix up enough of my bean/rice/veggie mix to fill about 3 dozen of these and into the freezer. I pull one out, let it thaw, and serve from it until I need another.
