Cinnyminis
Quick question... How old is a grey before they start to talk? My Radar is only 14 weeks old and says morning and hello plain as day, and tonight he was he started making all sorts of fun sounds and he said his name. I also thought I heard him say stop. (I say that to my kids a lot!) I hear him practicing the words in the morning before we all get up, but tonight he was in the middle of things joining in the noise of the house. So I guess what I am getting at, is 14 weeks young to talk or is that normal? (I should mention I have 7 kids and we talk to the bird constantly during the day.) kitt4kaz
I would love to see a video of him talking. Sounds like Radar is quite a character. I know you are enjoying him.
judygram
It varies from grey to grey but it is possible he is talking at this age, my grey did not talk until she was about a year old, it happens when they feel like it and some will sooner rather than later but congrats on an early talker, it probably doesn't hurt that he is talked to all day long. Beth There's no set age in which they'll talk. Some start very young and others start when they're older. The average age for talking is about 7 mts to 15 mts old but that varies a lot. It also has to do with how much they're hearing all day long. The fun things you're hearing in the morning is just the practicing of what he's heard. Sometimes it takes a while to change those sounds into words Edited December 27, 2012 by Dave007
Wulfgeist
Jasper didn't say his first clear thing until about 6 or 7 months old I think while another baby at the store of the same age was saying words before she even went home. From what I have heard of you probably have one of those exceptionally young starters and I agree that all those people talking to him all the time has to help out. If you can get a video we'd love to see it, babies especially are so darn cute. You sound like you have your hands full there at home but if you have time I would recommend starting a journal for him. While it will take him a few years to really become an adult these changes he will undergo in the next year or so will seem to happen so swiftly. I started one before I brought Jasper home and recorded things like what he likes to eat or no on a given day, when he started actually saying a word clearly, when I noticed his eyes changing colour, when it started snowing in my house (you will love that one)... Wulfgeist
Babies goes through a molt roughly around 8 months I think where they lose all these down fluffs. This preceeds their first actual feather molt. These fluffballs will show up here and there and in time you will swear it's snowing in your house. Some of them get pretty darn big and they *will* find their way into any open cup, mug or glass filled with liquid, especially coffee. Especially...coffee... Cinnyminis
He is only 4 months but I find about 8-10 of these fluff balls every morning beside the cage on the floor.
