Hushnet
Hi Everyone, So I don't currently own a grey, I'm still learning quite a bit and assuring myself I'm making the right choice for the grey and for my family. Nothing I've see so far has deterred me though, I'm joining this forum to continue to learn about African Greys from people who actually own them - since I can read all the articles I want but with my previous parrots I've found having knowledgeable persons to go to has been the best resource. I personally have experience with parrotlets, lovebirds, and cockatoos; but while working with the Humane Society I have gotten to know a few greys and found them - albeit often with some unsavoury learned behaviours - to be fantastic companions, and I very much look forward to having a grey adopt our family as his own. Cheers,

JeffNOK
I joined the forum a year before I brought my grey home and it really was a great educational tool and resource. Since you have parrot experience you are a bit ahead of the game, but greys are unique and hopefully you will gain useful info here. Welcome. Ray P
Hi Hushnet and welcome to the grey forum. If you have had a Too than you are way ahead of the game and should have no trouble with a grey.
katana600
Welcome to our forum and thank you for your introduction. I recently read a book called "A Portrait of Dorian Grey" What to Expect When You Live With Large Birds by Dru and Al Simon. I found a lot of similarities in what our members have shared about living with our greys. It is written from a family point of view and they also live with a Cockatoo. We love sharing with people who are considering a grey carefully and an informed home is a forever home. Good luck bringing home a grey soon. judygram
Hello Hushnet and welcome to our family. I commend you for learning all you can before committing to owning one of these awesome creatures because you need to know what to expect before you plunge into it. I would imagine it would not be difficult since you have had experience with toos but you have come to the right place to mingle with people who actually own one or more of these birds and can help answer questions you may have. You will get a good idea of how it is to live with a grey just by reading thru the many threads as lots of the members share stories of their adventures with their greys, though they share common traits each one is an individual and no two are exactly alike. From the sound of your opening post it would appear you are leaning toward adopting a rehomed grey, they usually take longer to gain their trust but well worth the effort.
