Help rust

Sassy

Recommended Posts

So I bought Neytiri's cage used didn't see any rust or issues. However now there is rust on the bars ( when you slide the bars up there is a little rust on the part that is normally hidden by the thicker horizontal bar) and what worries me more is there is rust on the bottom grate. Any suggestions? I'm not sure what to do.

Thanks

Sassy

Don't use it if it is rusted, you will have to get a new cage for it is next to impossible to have it redone, much less expensive to buy a new one than to try to have it powder coated. You may not have noticed any rust on it when you bought it but it was there if it is showing up now which is usually why I avoid used cages.

if you want to have powercoat redone, I was just looking around having my cage change color, did call around local power coat shops and here are the prices:

YOu have to take cage a part, they will send blast old coat off, and they recommended putting two coats at list on the bottom tray for protection from moisture.

Single coat $150 any color

Doble coat all cage $200 - any color

take 2 days

Thanks Judy....As a side note, All powder coating isn't created the same, some have Zinc and other poisons unsafe for our fids, unless they can prove to you their using "Parrotsafe and approved PC, don't do it!!!!! Also after contacting both Rustoleum and Krylon, Baby-safe paint is only safe as long as you don't chip it, chew it, or swallow it!!!!!!

There are differences between Thermoplastic powders that will remelt when heated, and Thermosetting powders that will not remelt upon reheating. Some powder coat companies recycle the powder coat - great for out door furniture - bad for birds. Further, a powder coat job over metal with too much zinc or rust will not protect the bird. There are factories in China with leaky roofs that produce thousands of bird cages that have been powder coated over rust and are sold here in the US

Thanks
