Hawks On The Hudson

It was a beautiful day today so what better excuse then to grab the camera rig and head out to one of my favorite bird shooting spots.. It's a lookout high above the Hudson river on the Palisades Parkway.. Usually a great spot for shooting birds of prey.. Today there were very very few to shoot.. Maybe I was just there at the wrong time.. But I did manage to get a few I thought you would like to see..

Beautiful photos indeed. What magnificent birds they are - we had one land near the cage of our lovebirds on the balcony a few months ago: the lovebirds went bezirk. Had to chase him away. But they sure are very, very impressive (at least to me) - thanks, ceasarsdad B)

Thank you so much everyone for all the kind words.. I was a little disappointed that there were so few birds yesterday.. The fall usually has some wonderful opportunities to shoot lots of Birds Of Prey from that Cliff of the Hudson..

 

I'm gonna go back all fall and winter.. I should have lots of good photography to share with my online buddies.. Stay tuned...

Kim and I counted 37 Hawks and Turkey Headed Vultures fly over our house in just under an hour yesterday.

CD, these are so beautiful. I watch hawks all the time. We have quite a few here in the San Joaquin Valley. (foothills)

 

Last weekend Dan & I were watching Turkey Vultures, hawks migrating right over our home. I counted 73 over a period of one hour. They are very big birds whose flight pattern is very similar to hawks, only much bigger. They are ugly birds, but in flight, they are a work of art.

The next day I saw 76 fly over. An awesome sight.

 

Trivia: Did you know hawks and eagles also migrate? I didn't think they did. Just goes to show one is never too old to learn something new!

 

Hahaha..............keep those awesome pictures coming. Or better yet, why not come out to Calif. and photograph our birds and landscape. We'd all have a good time.
