An idea my hubby came up with to "recycle" the cardboard boxes our k-cups come in. We like the coffee and apparently the birds like their boxes. :)

Directions:

Take 1 empty K-Cup/tassimo pod/other box. Stuff it full of old foot toys, treats, sisal, treats, straws, etc. Tie it or otherwise attach to perch (this is just stuck in one of their play boxes but will probably need to be tied down.) Let your birds tear it apart! ;)sm-playbox.jpg

Perfect! I use any cardboard box - Burt seems to prefer Amazon.com boxes, so I get to shop a lot! I also hide bits of nuts and seeds in the box. He has to rummage through the toys to get to the treats. He also enjoys shredding the box.

When I get Chinese take out the soup comes in plastic containers. I use rawhide or plastic chain and quick links to make hanging foraging buckets. The pint sized containers work best here.

I have seen new Chinese take out paper containers and new plain pizza boxes for sale on some of the bird sites. Cone style coffee filters work too. Its very easy and cheap to make paper mache destroyables. I'll try and do a how to post on that this weekend.

We get those all of the time! I didn't realize those were safe! We have been saving them since I craft!

Awesome! Can't wait to start making toys with the family for our little girl. Is "sisal" the colored hair looking stuff?

Great to have this thread highlighted again now that Gilbert is reaching a new brave outlook on life and is playing a little. You all have some wonderful ideas.

I'm soooo boring! No imagination, so I let everyone else pick out their toys. I DID find an awesome toy the otherday at the birdstore that you have to hang from the ceiling. It is huge! Of course, doubted myself, thinking about it. Nancy
