CelloChess
Hello, Our Timneh Jimbob has had super runny poop for a few days now..the newspapers are soaked when we go to change them. We haven't been feeding him much junk food like chips and such, so what could it be? Thanks
kins2321@yahoo.com
If you are providing diets with healthy fruits and veggies, may want to cut back on fruits. Are they eating a healthy seed and pellet diet? Nancy
CelloChess
He only eats his Zupreem fruit blend pellets (all he has ever eaten) as well as an occasional treat (all natural corn chip/peanut). He eats regularly and talks, so other than the runny poop he seems fine. He still asks for a treat every now and then "Chip! Chip!" It's gotten colder here at night. Could that have something to do with it?
Spinner
Immediately get rid of the newspaper and put down white, non-printed paper so you can see exactly what is going on. Unprinted newsprint is ok. Very wet droppings for multiple days is a cause to pay attention, especially when there isn't any change in diet to cause it. Get your baby to the vet (now) for a culture to see if anything is going on. It's a non-invasive process, relatively inexpensive, and will clearly identify if there's an issue or not. Spinner
Oh, and to be clear, watery droppings are ok. But if they are only water, with little or no fecal (green stuff) matter, then there's a problem. The amount of urine (the watery part of the droppings) may increase or decrease, but the dropping fecal content should stay pretty consistent. If the watery droppings are discolored, smell funny, think versus watery, and lack fecal matter, there's likely a problem.
CelloChess
Can we just take a poo sample? There are no changes in behavior, and it seems it would just cause more problems and stress to actually take him down there. Here is a picture (gorgeous, I know) Edited September 18, 2012 by CelloChess
Spinner
Check Jimbob's morning bomb and see what it looks like. If it looks normal, but excessively watery, you're likely ok. If not, then call your vet to see if a dropping sample would be ok or if he needs a vent culture.
Spinner
How's Jimbob? Improved?
CelloChess
We took him to the vet the day before yesterday and had him checked out. She first took a poop swab and immediately she saw that there was some infection, so she gave us antibiotics to put in his water. So far Jimbob's actual poop still seems about the same, but he's been acting a bit more like he normally does (he was acting a bit lethargic). So hopefully he's on the path to recovery! We also had a blood test done to scan for several things (just to be on the safe side). Should get the results today, I think.
