Makena
Have any of you guys ever feed your greys edamame? We bought an unsalted frozen bag of them from the store, warmed some up for Makena and he went nuts! We gave them to him in the pod and he quickly went through the bowl popping out all the soybeans and devouring them. I pulled the nutrition facts on them (I inputed a 15g serving which is about what Mak ate) and it appears they are quite good for him. High in protein, has some vitamins and good fat. Makena won't touch tofu, but this he likes!

Post edited by: Makena, at: 2007/10/05 06:
dblhelix
We feed them to Kip all the time. Make sure you get "unsalted" (as you indicate). I love them myself and Kip really likes too!
lovemyGreys
Yep they are a big hit with the greys Makena A little more info Edamame is a green vegetable more commonly known as a soybean, harvested at the peak of ripening right before it reaches the "hardening" time. The word Edamame means "Beans on Branches," and it grows in clusters on bushy branches. To retain the freshness and its natural flavor, it is parboiled and quick-frozen.A good source of protein. judygram
So edamame is a fancy name for soybeans, well fancy that, thanks Kristin for the nutrition information and thanks Tracy for the explanation, learn something new every day.
birdgranna
Where did you get these? I have bought frozen soy beans but they were not on a branch...they were just frozen soybeans. I have been buying caned ones as my greys seem to like those. I had never heard of Edamame. Health food store maybe?
Makena
I actually got them from Costco (4 lbs. for $7!!!), but I have also seen them at Safeway. And as dblhelix said, make sure you get unsalted, many brands are heavily salted. Here is a pic of the ones I got...

Post edited by: Makena, at: 2007/10/06 04:
