Ronda477
I have tried to read what you can feed your grey. Lets see try to avoid salt. The breeder already has her on Zupreem pellets along with fruit and veggies. As for what we eat for dinner, Can I give her some of that? We do that to our Quaker. It seems very very odd actually but she loves chicken. I almost feel funny about giving her some but she won't shut up till we give her some lol. Anyway back to the grey's. Can we give her bites of our food? If they aren't too salty? Can anyone give me a list that I can print off of some veggies and fruits that are good for your bird? And the bad things for your bird? I know things like caffeine and it's probably the same as the Quaker in a way, they can't have avvacodo seed or apple seeds. But anything else would be helpful. Don't want her to eat an unhealthy diet. Someone in this house should eat healthy! Maybe she will inspire us too as well lol.
judygram
Ronda, we do have a few threads that deal with this very subject, look in the bird food room for them. You already know some of the things that are bad for them and yes she can eat some off your plate. My Josey eats off my plate at the evening meal and she loves chicken also. Ronda477
lol And me!! I thank you for giving me that list, I pretty much knew but wanted to make sure. I don't want to feed her anything that will harm her. I saw on here some recipes. I might try those as well! Thanks again!!
lovemyGreys
You will soon slip into a routine Ronda with your new baby & pretty soon know what her likes & dislikes are in food. A few more ideas as some alternatives are, wholemeal toast with peanut butter or pure honey in the mornings or oats or pureed fruit Scrambled egg, wholegrain rice, the list is endless really anything you are unsure of feeding just ask. BMustee
When it comes to the Avocado, I would not feed any of it to my birds. I saw you said only the seed, but the flesh around the seed and skin is toxic. I have been told to keep anything that has Avocado away from the birds, like Guacamole and things like that, because you don't know what parts are in it. I personally do not allow anything with it in the house, just to be sure that the bird never has a chance to get into it. Also, never allow your bird to get into any alcohol (beer, wine, liquor), tobacco product, or chocolate. These four items are the biggest no-no’s for our avian friends. Ronda477
Thank you on the avocado, but really unless it's beans and corn bread or biscuits and gravy we probably won't have a problem lol. This is WV! We can't find half the stuff we used to when we lived in Ohio. But all joking aside, thank you. I will remember to not give them alcohol, chocolate (damn all the good stuff) And avocado. I do know they are very dangerous for them. Sorry just in a joking mood tonight. The date is getting more and more near and I think I'm getting crazier lol.
judygram
We understand the crazies, you are getting close to bringing the baby home and are so excited, I know how you feel, been there and done that. I hear ya on the beans and cornbread, two of my favorites, and Josey loves those beans too.
kiwibarb12
You might find some red palm oil and add a 1/4 teaspoon to your birds food every couple of days. I found some in Little Rock at an organic food store. The theory behind that is that it is what they eat in the wild. Helps skin, feathers and beak. Beckette loves cashews, peanuts and sesame seeds, so that is what I chop up and put on top of what ever I want her to try. I also serve her food warm so she is more likely to try it. I actually made Beck cornbread with honey and red palm oil, and froze most of it for later. My partner, Joe, was most miffed that I had cooked for the "ugly shoulder deformity" and not him!!!! I have found to keep peace I have to bake something for the really big baby, then something for the smaller grey baby:woohoo: I cooked Beck oatmeal one day and flavoured it with honey, raisens, and pine nuts. she isn't thrilled with it, but with ample cashew nuts she is eating it. anything you eat your baby will want to eat. Infact, if I want Beck to eat something I eat it first where she can see me, then she insists that she gets some.

BMustee
 hahaha...thats funny Ronda. I love my cornbread and biscuits n' gravy! I'm live in FL and we love the soul food down here, and so do the birds. I don't let him get too much, mainly because I want it all for myself, but also because I'm sure if it makes me fat it'll make the bird fat as well. I just go with the rule of thumb that if I wouldn't eat it then the bird can't ether...minus the chocolate because I can never have too much of that! birdgranna
I make my fids a mixture of chick peas, soy beans, kidney beans, fava beans, corn and brown rice, warm, pretty well each day. On Sunday they get poached egg. Every morning they eat a tiny square of peanut butter on toast. They love hot peppers and pomegranet (sp?). They enjoy berries of any kind and for a treat I froze some gooseberries for them and give it to them frozen..they love it. They also relish fresh figs when in season and like dried ones too. They love sugar snap peas, apples, almonds(which are very good for greys as they are high in calcium) and walnuts. You may have read that I do not give peanuts in the shell to my birds as one of my amazons picked up Aspergillosis from peanut shells, so I would strongly advise you NOT to offer him those. For a "good bird" treat I give the odd Fruit Loop. My birds eat chicken and beef and also the bones of these meats. The marrow is very good for them and the meat high in calcuim and protein. Dandelion greens are fun for them to eat. I tie a bunch in their cage if I have to put them away during the day. Keeps them busy while I am out.So good for them too. When I feel guilty for leaving them too long I give then a few sunflower seeds;) and they know they will get them too! So funny! My greys are good eaters. My amazons are far more fussy. However, my greys are way messier than the amazons! Plastic panels behind THEIR cage! What a mess they make with their food! I know how excited you must be feeling! Good luck with your new fid:)
