cheebamaster
Went up to the store today and was able to bring Luna home! She's now sitting in her big cage not moving much so I'm just hoping she'll find her water/food and that no begging occurs tonight. She's been good for a few days without any hand feeding so hopefully all goes well. 16 weeks old...put some newly sprouted seeds with some zupreem natural and harrisons high potency in her bowls to start. judygram
Congrats on bringing Luna home and she looks good sitting there on that branch, yes she is in all new surroundings and is taking it all in so give her time to adjust, hope you have put her perches down low and padded the bottom of the cage in case she falls as babies are a little clumsy until they get more adept at perching. She is a beautiful grey though.
ariisamis
Congrats. I know you are very excited. Enjoy and have a great weekend with your baby.
Acappella
What a pretty baby with her red factor belly. Dorian has colour on those feathers as well, but lighter, more pink than red. Hope you have a good weekend getting comfortable with each other.
judygram
Oh I see you have added some more pictures, she is adorable and that second pic is precious with her dark eyes, wow you are going to have fun with her, be sure to let us know how it goes but just take things nice and slow. cheebamaster
Yup, so hard to take things slow haha...I have so many things to introduce her to such as her various play areas and shower perch but all in good time. Question though...she is holding 1 foot up sometimes when she gets sleepy. Is that normal or could the perch be to big or something?
Acappella
You're so cute That's the way they relax, with one foot tucked up into their chest. It means she's settling in nicely.
Guest candismalli
she is beautiful, love the red belly feathers. Not too much but just a little hint for a little extra beauty! She looks happy in her new home, have fun with her. I can no longer imagine life without my Charley even though he is quite ornery with the family in the past few days! cheebamaster
Thanks all...she is quite the chirper. She has been chipring all day long without stopping even once. First night was epic..she was asleep by 730 pm...I made the mistake of staying up till 2am watching Netflix. Little did I know about 545 AM wakeup. 4 cups of coffee and I'm still rearing to go! Breakfast consisted of peas, carrots, corn, green beans and a ton of sprouts. I think she eats a lot healthier than I do maybe I can learn something haha

I think she eats a lot healthier than I do maybe I can learn something haha Yes, we call that the Grey Diet. Warning, that chirp you find so endearing now could, potentialy, drive you 'round the bend later. Choose a contact call that you like and practice it with her. When you leave the room and she chirps, respond to her with the chosen sound. It may take weeks, but it's time well spent. If she chooses the sound I can almost guarantee it will be dramatic, which is a nice way of saying annoying. Like the smoke alarm. Your alarm clock. The "battery needs charging" sound from your cell phone. etc...
cheebamaster
Ah, I was just ignoring her since I thought responding would reinforce the behavior but I'll definitely start responding with my sound! Thanks
Acappella
Ah, I was just ignoring her since I thought responding would reinforce the behavior but I'll definitely start responding with my sound! Thanks Well, you're right in a way. If you respond right away you might run the risk of reinforcing the sound. However, contact calling is important to their sense of security. They need to know where the members of the flock are when they're out of sight. I would wait for a count of five, then call her with your sound. Of course if she choses a sound that isn't yours, but is pleasant enough that you can imagine hearing it multiple times a day for the next few decades, re-inforce it. You're doing great and your baby is lucky to have found you.

katana600
Luna is a darling. I love the light grey and all her little red underfeathers. You are doing great with her already. Gotta love those early morning wake ups. She is probably just excited to meet her day and get to know you better.
cheebamaster
Hey all, got another question. She doesn't want to eat out of bowl when she's inside cage. I made her some fresh carrots and sprouts this morning but she didn't touch any for a couple hours until I put her on top of cage and put bowl next to her at which point she chomped down. She was just making noise all morning long until she was on her cage top eating the food I had prepared hours earlier. Any thoughts?
Wingy
Are you sure she knows the bowls contain food and water? Try showing the inside of the bowls to her and see if you can get her to follow where you are putting them. Are the bowls inside the cage the same size as the ones on the playtop and are the perches at a comfortable height for her? My guess would be that she either doesn't know where they are or the bowls/perches aren't positioned right for her. This is something you'll have to watch for the next little while to ensure she is getting enough water.
