specific body language

My CAG is 3 yrs. old, hand feed and step-on-finger trained with original owner of pet shop. He does step onto my hand, at times with some reluctuance. I am working with this. Question: What does it mean when my grey rolls his neck in 360 degrees when I near the cage? Idea: Letting me know that he does not want to be touched or made to perch? Other than this, when he is on my hand, I gently rub his neck and head and he ooooo's like a owl. Is this a natural CAG sound for pleasure?

I already have a G.cockatoo, a cockatiel, a green cheek conure, and a parakeet, hence, I am not a novice to birds, but am a novice with greys.

It sounds like he is a bit uncomfortable or nervous when you approach, that is a natural reaction how long have you had this bird?. I find thatToo's are a bit more outgoing and from my experience quicker to trust than a Grey. Conures are naturally self confidant they think they can kick a Rottweilers butt, no fear of taking their human to task. With Greys going slowly and letting them set the pace works out best for you and them.

You have not had this bird for very long have you? I would take it slow and easy to gain his trust, you might benefit from reading the thread about understanding grey body language as it will serve you well. It does sound like he is starting to settle into his new home and relax some so continue to take it slow and be patient with him.
