Guest XxExoticPsychExX
So I had a scare today with my cat Jaime. She's been getting huge so we started thinking that she was pregnant. My mom told me earlier today that Jaime had bled a little on her bed and I began to suspect that she might have miscarried. However, almost 2 hours later there was still no delivery of a still born. To add on top of it, my mom told me that she first noticed Jaime bleeding last night. We've never had a pregnant cat, but geez mom, I wish you would have mentioned that a long time ago. That's when I knew we REALLY needed to take Jaime to a vet ASAP. We were referred by our regular vet to an animal ER that was 40 minutes away from our house. Off I went with my mom and Jaime to a place we've never been to before. While waiting (my cat was bleeding, why were we made to wait?!?), Jaime all of a sudden gave birth to what I think was a placenta. It wasn't until I made it known to the receptionist that hey, my cat just plopped out a placenta, did they really begin to hurry things up. They initially took x-rays and an ultra sound, which confirmed that Jaime was in fact pregnant with one kitten that was unfortunately dead. She needed to have surgery no matter what since she was unable to pass the kitten on her own and could possibly die trying or by not passing it at all. Jaime has never had kittens and is 5 years old so we were really worried. Our only option was to have the surgery right there since our normal vet wouldn't be able to get to it until Friday. Really?? Why even bother saying that you can perform what would be a life saving, urgent surgery 3 days later when it's needed now? Well, I just got a call from the surgeon not too long ago and everything went perfect. Jaime is safe and sound, waking up from the anesthesia and luckily for us they knocked off about $800 from the bill. Now to come up with the rest of the dough before picking her up is gonna be another obstacle! Either way, knowing that she is safe, healthy and alive is priceless. Acappella
Oh, your poor baby. So glad you got her to the vet in time. Give her a scratch behind the ears from me when you get her home.
katana600
Aww, poor little kitty. I am so sorry you have been through this and glad that it turned out okay for you to be bringing Jaime home. We just added a cat to our home when my daughter moved back, she is such a sweet little thing. Sharing your story helps me because even though we are going through some unheaval right now, the first order of business will be to take Pumpkin to the vet to have her spayed. She is only a few months old but it is a pressing matter now so she can be spared the ordeal you all have gone through.
Greywings
Good save, sorry communications could have been better but the result is a survivor cat and feeling better.
judygram
Thank goodness she is going to be fine, you might want to think about having her spayed, that way it can never happen again, I have always had my cats neutered or spayed so they don't contribute to the cat population. Acappella
When I had to spend $600 a few years ago to take care of my cat Jac's absessed tooth my family (who are almost all farmers) thought I was crazy, but I never even thought twice about it. Feathered, furred, scaled, or finned, they're all family.
Guest XxExoticPsychExX
Skittles is spayed, but Jaime had been previously diagnosed with feline leukemia so any surgeries could be risky for her so we decided to just have her as a strictly indoor cat (they both are). However, ever since she got out the day someone left the front door open, she continues to try to run out sometimes once she got a taste of the outdoors. I continuously fight with my family because they're always being careless when coming in and out of the house. Anyways, I just picked her up from the vet and she's doing fine. She had a tiny fever this morning, but I had them check her temp again before leaving and the fever is gone. Since she needed to go under the knife anyways we had them spay her at the same time. I asked them how old the kitten was for future reference and they gave me some creepy information. The kitten was about a month and a half along, but it was mummified. That means it died awhile ago and was never birthed out. Jaime was bleeding because her body finally decided it was time to get rid of it, but couldn't. We're not sure how long it was inside of her, but I'm going to see how long ago she was taken to the vet for her updated shots since they always feel her stomach area to check the internal organs. That might give us a better idea of how long the kitten was inside of her. It's just so creepy because she was barely getting fat this past month too. . . For those of us who choose to have pets, we need to take full responsibility as their care takers and provide for them a happy, healthy and fulfilling life as best as we can. katana600
As a follow up, we did make an appointment for our little Pumpkin kitty to be spayed next week. The vet gave us an estimate, ouch. My other daughter is a cat lover, and an accountant. She said we should take Pumpkin to the SPCA, they will provide a lower cost for spaying, about a fourth of the private vet... then we could adopt her back again. LOL. We found this little girl last October in her apartment parking lot in Wilmington NC. I offered to pay for her spaying and to put ads out to find her a home and after a seven and a half hour drive one way, her home was found right here on our doorstep. She is missing her tail and the vet who checked her in Wilmington couldn't tell if she was born that way or if it was an accident. We keep her inside all the time but your story helped give me the nudge that if we think we are busy with our little zoo right now, it could get worse. Thanks for posting and for taking such good care of your little Jaime and friends.
