hello all,

Finally got a couple of pictures of my bird posted. See pictures on forum. I have named her Maggie Mae. I'm kinda thinking she is a female. She is getting more alert and looking around her surroundings alot more. I can not wait untill I get her home. The lady at the pet store says that these kinds of birds get very upset with new surroundings and new cages. I hope that she does not get too upset when I bring her home.

Anyone who has brought home an african grey, when it was a baby, how did your bird react to bringing her home for the first time and how long did it take her to get used to her new surroundings? I am sure that I will spoil her rotten once I get her home. I just wish I did not have to work so much. My husband is retired and stays home so he will be with the bird alot more than me, but I know once I leave work at 3:30 and get home, I will spend some quality time with the bird.

Hope everyone has a great day. Talk to you later.

When i brought my two boys home i left them in their cage for one hour, they had quite a long journey.I then let them out to familiarize with their play stand & surroundings. It is a good idea for perhaps the first week or so to have the perches in the cage near

the middle & bottom, maybe an old towel or blanket with some newspaper on top, changed daily, this will cushion any falls your grey may have.Baby greys love scratching on the bottom of the cage so dont be alarmed if your baby does this, it will pass.

Greys love routine, so start as you mean to go on.Where your grey is going to have breakfast, what times she is coming out of her cage etc,,they can adapt & obviously there the routine is flexible but try to stick with it.

Im sure you will be fine & your baby will fit in with your lifestyle, keep us informed :)

I just saw your baby and she is adorable, they sure are cute when they are young.

Like LovemyGreys said, put her in her cage and leave her for a while to settle down then open her cage and see if she will venture out. You can take your cues from her if she is ready to explore a little and have some time to spend with you.

She will adjust to a new cage when you first bring her home better than later on when it is necessary to get a new cage, then is when she will likely balk at having to adjust to a new one. But as babies they take to changes more readily.

Spend lots of time with your baby but not so much that you cannot continue with that amount for they get used to it and it will cause problems later if you slack up.

I think you will be fine so don't worry so much, just enjoy your new baby and love it with all your heart.
